On top of all the unexpected things life likes to throw at me lately and running a farm business, I also have five children. One is getting ready to head off to college, while the other four keep my schedule very busy with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and everything in between.
Both sets of our twins have their own special needs, and navigating this journey has been a lot to process and learn. We have been on a very long waitlist for autism evaluation since January🙃There have been moments of frustration, exhaustion and uncertainty but those moments have made it very clear to me about which direction I want to go with my career and what I'm truly passionate about.
Through our own experiences, I've realized there are some resources lacking in our community for individuals with special needs and those struggling with their mental health. I have to drive 40 minutes to another county for Occupational therapy for instance.
Sometimes families don't need someone to "fix" things. They need someone who understands. They need a safe place, connection, support, acceptance, and opportunities to simply belong.
My own mental health journey with bipolar disorder has also shaped so much of who I am today. I've experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate mental health challenges, and I've also learned how powerful it can be to have the right people (or animals🐮🐐) and resources around you. My background in social work has only strengthened my passion for helping people and connecting them with the support they need.
And somewhere along the way, all of these pieces came together and became something bigger than our own family.
Healing Hannimals ❤️🐮
Healing Hannimals is a nonprofit born from our family's experiences and our belief that animals, nature, farming, and genuine human connection can be powerful tools for healing.
But we can't do this alone.
We are currently looking for board members who are passionate about our mission and want to help us grow Healing Hannimals into something that can truly make a difference in our community.
We are also looking for volunteers who may not be able to commit to a board position but would love to help with events, programs, fundraising, animals, outreach, or simply lend a helping hand when needed.
You don't have to have all the answers. You don't have to be an expert. You just have to care.
If you believe in what I'm trying to build—I would love to hear from you.
If you're interested in becoming a board member or volunteering, please send me a message on Facebook, email us at [email protected], or call/text 410-996-4874.
