Soul food dinner TONIGHT at Graceland! Join the Legendary Ingramettes for a Soul Food Dinner in Graceland Inn on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. Christine Ingram-Murphy, former member of the Ingramettes and current member of the 2018-2019 class of Master Artists in the Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship Program, is a master of soul food cooking, with an emphasis on healthy traditional soul food dishes.

The menu will feature turkey, purple cabbage and green cabbage, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas, rice, candied carrots, cornbread, chocolate cake, sweet potato pie and pound cake. The Legendary Ingramettes will be on hand and the Northern Kentucky Brotherhood will drop in!

The Soul Food Dinner with the Ingramettes is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Graceland. The Lift Me Up! Masters of American Gospel concert featuring The Legendary Ingramettes and The Northern Kentucky Brotherhood begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 in Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium.

Square dance TONIGHT! Live music by Big Possum Stringband with Sean Fen calling. The dance is in the Creative Commons in the Myles Center for the Arts on the Davis & Elkins College campus. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students and AmeriCorps members, and free to Davis & Elkins students, faculty, and staff. No dance partner needed and listeners are welcome!

Join us for the Augusta Heritage Center dance this Friday, February 8th! Live music by Big Possum Stringband with and Sean Fen calling. The dance will be held in the Creative Commons in the Myles Center for the Arts on the Davis & Elkins College campus.

Big Possum String Band is made up of award-winning musicians Tessa Dillon on fiddle, Henry Barnes on fiddle, Evan Collins on guitar and Seth Swingle on clawhammer banjo. In 2018 Big Possum won 1st place in the 2018 string band contest at the Appalachian String Band Festival in Clifftop, WV. Read more about the dance at http://ow.ly/YP1930nBfBi .

The dance starts at 8 p.m., with a beginning workshop at 7:45 p.m. All dances are beginner and family friendly. Elkins is part of the The Mountain Dance Trail, a heritage tourism project of Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College. The project preserves and promotes local community square dances from the Virginia line to the Ohio border. The Mountain Dance Trail hosts a square dance almost every weekend somewhere in West Virginia.

We've missed you during the cold weather! So, join us TONIGHT for Augusta Heritage Center's Pickin’ in the Myles Center at Davis & Elkins College. The country music jam session will start at 5:00 near the fireplace and the old-time music jam sessions will start at 6:30 near the auditorium. All acoustic instruments are welcome as well as singers, dancers, and listeners. Hope to see you there!

Davis & Elkins College will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a reception, special presentation and entertainment on Monday, January 21 in Myles Center for the Arts. The event is part of the Civic Dinners Project and National Discussion on King’s “Beloved Community: Bridging the Racial Divide” supported by the King Foundation.

The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. in The Joni and Buck Smith Arts Forum. The presentation, sponsored by D&E’s Black Student Union, follows at 7:30 p.m. in Harper-McNeeley Auditorium with keynote speaker Sheila Coleman-Castells and performances by D&E students and local artists. Community members are invited to be a part of the conversation and offer ideas for improving relationships.

Tickets to the reception are $15 per person general admission and $10 for D&E students, and can be purchased online at www.dewv.edu/arts-entertainment. Those wanting to attend the presentation only may do so free of charge.
