Oh the stories this ole Coulee Barn could tell! A vintage 1923 centerpiece once surrounded by a family farm. An old barn now repurposed with a different purpose, of it's modern day story of still growing community connections in this rural small town river town.

This weekend we hosted a pancake party with Ben Hoksch of Front Yard Sugar in celebration of the community of residents in Elkader, who shared the sap from their front yard trees. Like hay bales brought to this same barn years ago, the sap from the trees was hauled to the barn on its own kind of wagon to be boiled down.....Boiled down into sweet maple syrup, just like the sweet smell of fresh hay stacked in the barn years before.

With the evening sun setting low and a half moon rising to greet the barn, folks from near and far gathered again to enjoy the sweet sounds of music of a duet called Between Howls from Duluth, MN... who then ventured on to The Green Door in Clermont, a community connected to us by river, and as part of a shared vision between Clermont-Elgin-Elkader of the Turkey River Recreational Corridor. Between Howls will be back as well later this summer on July 17th as part of the Turkey River Cabin Concerts and Cabin Concerts music series, at the end of a week-long river cleanup on the Turkey as part of Project AWARE.

Just like a long-term future investment put into motion by planting a tree, this old barn continues to grow by telling fresh new stories and bringing people together within our community & beyond 100 years later! 🌲🌲
