BACKYARD BEES
Saturday, June 6th, 11 am - 12 pm

Join our beekeepers as we open up Craigardan’s hives for an inspection. See what the inner workings of a bee hive look like and try to spot the queen! You’ll learn about bee behavior, how bees make honey, and what role they play on the farm and in the ecosystem. We’ll also taste-test some honey from around the region and talk about basic equipment and what it takes to get started. Advance registration is required.

Location: Meet in the parking lot of the farm store.

If you are allergic to bees you are required to bring your own EpiPen.

FRIDAY APPLEBARN SERIES
UNCERTAINTY ACADEMY
FREE! / FRIDAY, MAY 29 / 5 - 6PM / MAIN CAMPUS

Uncertainty Academy - In collaboration with artist Tal Beery and scholar Joshua Moses, Uncertainty Academy: Adirondacks is a unique residency program and roundtable discussion series at Craigardan exploring responses to the uncertainties-both material and psychic-arising from the climate crisis and other cascading crises.
Six residency participants, each representing a diverse spectrum of perspectives on uncertainty, purposefulness, fear, friendship, and transformational responses to the climate crisis, will immerse themselves in unstructured reflection, project development, and evening discussions throughout the week.
Throughout this exchange, we will identify unifying commonalities amidst seemingly radical differences. We will address various scales and their interrelationships, from the individual, community, organizational, and nonhuman realms. Our hope is to cultivate unlikely juxtapositions of perspectives, creating a riotous garden rather than a uniform lawn.

The participants will jointly present a roundtable discussion on their work for this first Friday Applebarn Talk of the season.

Join us for our annual summer event! Saturday, July 11th, from 4-8 pm. We come together to celebrate the warmth and fire of creativity that connects and sustains us.

As per tradition, we will light many fires: the wood kiln, the pizza oven, and this year — our rocket kiln. Each year the event grows as our campus and community continues to grow — and we’ll have a few surprises to share this year.
Come for a fun afternoon full of art, friends, music, and food. We’ll be firing the wood kiln all day and cooking pizza’s in the wood-fired bread oven. And, you’ll be firing our new wood-fired rocket kiln built by artist Lisa Orr! Come help us stoke the kiln.
Bring family and friends to explore the grounds and new trails, listen to music, hang out by the fires, picnic on the lawn, and celebrate the arts. Pick up some incredible artwork for a good cause at the silent auction, and learn more about our residency program during a special public roundtable presentation with our alumni and executive director at 5pm.
ANNUAL BENEFIT
This is a free, “open house” style event and you can arrive anytime you like. We hope that you’ll also consider making a donation to help support Craigardan’s programs and ongoing campus development. Last year’s event helped us achieve our goal of awarding more than $150,000 in scholarships and fellowships to artists and scholars from around the Adirondacks and around the world through residencies, classes, and workshops.

4 - 8 PM on our growing mountain campus.

Learn more, find the full day’s schedule, and donate online at the link in our bio.

Craigardan has yarn from our sheep for sale: Dk weight yarn/2oz/180 yards. Don’t know any of that jargon? No worries, neither did our farmer who wanted to make something from our sheep flock. First time knitter trying out a fingerless glove pattern all thanks to Clea and Sue who made getting started so easy.

The drop in classes at Yarns at Young’s Studio and Gallery in Jay NY are for absolute beginners as well as those who need a refresh in learning how to knit. You’ve been telling yourself you want to learn this skill, now is the time to do so with a seasoned knitter who has lots of teaching experience. You will start right in on a project of your choosing and get help in finding the yarn that will work best for that pattern or how to find a pattern for the yarn you may already have. You’ll also get a good overview of yarn weights, yarn composition and how to read a pattern.

Drop in Knit classes with Clea are structured so you can learn at your own pace. She has developed a good base of beginner projects that will use one 4oz (100g) skein of yarn of your choice. Bring your own yarn and needles or purchase at Young’s for a one time 15% discount. We also have loaner knitting needles.

The free food fridge is back outside, accessible for the summer season 24/7! Offered in solidarity, not charity, the free food fridge is stocked with fresh, local and organic produce, from our farm as well as other local partner farms.

The free food fridge would not be possible without the generous support of the Glen & Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation, the Cloudsplitter Foundation, and the Empty Bowls, Full Hearts Fundraiser. If you’d like to get involved with Empty Bowls join us for the Makers Day in the clay studio on 6/13. No experience necessary, register on our website!
