Craigardan will be looking for summer interns. Interns on the farm help plot, transplant and hay the garden aaaan then watch it all come to life while harvesting food for the artists and their farm share. They also care for our hens, hogs and sheep while maintaining our woods in the trails.

Monday Night Dinners are one of the highlights of our residency season. Every week we invite local community members to join us around the table alongside staff and residents to enjoy a feast harvested from our farm and partner farms. It is a wonderful chance for our visiting artists to meet some of the incredible people who live and work in the region. And likewise, it’s a chance for our local friends and neighbors to meet the talented folks from around the world who come to spend time at Craigardan. And the food (prepared this year by Michele, Julia, Isabel, and our chefs in residence) is such a special way to celebrate local produce while starting each week of residency off right.

It’s the time of year where we are surrounded by fresh produce. We know it can be a little overwhelming trying to decide what to make for dinner, so here’s some inspiration from our farm store manager for a delicious and nutritious meal centering local products:
Start with a salad made with Lissa Goldstein arugula, Juniper Hill Farm cherry tomatoes, and Craigardan carrots and beets.
For the main course make pasta (did you know that our Sfoglini pasta is made in New York State?) with sautéed Juniper Hill Farm heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, garlic, and onions, and Craigardan zucchini and pork sausage, topped with Lively Run goat feta (also a New York State product).
For dessert, consider grilling some Forrence Orchards peaches topped with some Hurricane Farm maple syrup.
We also carry plenty of other cooking ingredients, seasonings and sides to help your meal come together. Enjoy!

Johnna Arnold works across photography, ceramics, drawing, and social practice, she creates sculptural objects and images. Her work has been presented at San Francisco Camerawork, the California Museum of Photography, the Dorsky Museum, Headlands Center for the Arts, and the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery.

Mei Fung Chan often uses self-portraits to create complex narratives relating to contemporary Hong Kong culture. As a printmaker by training, Mei began her printmaking at Bridgewater State University in 2012. She later graduated with her Master of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in printmaking in 2017.

Claire Cohen is a Brooklyn-based freelance writer and editor interested in classic literary themes such as death, love, grief, and childhood, as well as the ways in which these themes are evolving with the modern day. Her current work aims to elevate
"romantasy" literature by exploring the sexual power dynamics inherent to it.

Hannah Rose Roberts is a Pushcart Prize-nominated writer with an MFA from the University of California, Riverside. Her work has appeared in Ploughshares, Architectural Digest, and elsewhere.

Craigardan nurtures creative practices through residency programs on the mountain, community education and the farming and stewarding of 320 acres of mountain fields and forests in the Adirondacks.
Our diversified farm nurtures through food and colors as we feed artists, community and staff. Earlier this spring we hosted a fruit pruning workshop on our farm for free to the community led by Peter Landu. Now we are harvesting some fruits to feed our artists, staff and Monday night dinners and stock our free food fridge. Happy August!

Take a small peek back at some of this summer’s Applebarn Talks. These weekly, free, public talks are a true highlight of our residency season. We believe that fostering the interaction between artists and the local public is as important as providing sheltered time to the scholars and artists that come to Craigardan for residencies. Applebarn Talks are one of the main ways we forge that connection.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us for a talk already. And special thank you to all of our residents for generously sharing about your work and yourselves so far this summer. You can catch the last Applebarn Talk of the season this Friday at 5pm on Craigardan’s main campus.

For any fresh produce you buy using SNAP, you will receive 50% off those products at checkout, allowing your money to go further. There are no extra steps required on your end, our staff will automatically apply Double Up Food Bucks to anyone purchasing fresh produce with SNAP. Our free food fridge is also available on the front porch of the farm store 24/7, offered in solidarity not charity to all community members.

LU CHEKOWSHY, ISABEL ARÉVALO, GRACE FOSSETT

Lu Chekowsky is an Emmy Award-winning writer, former advertising creative director and the author of, "Don't Buy What I'm Selling: On Breaking Up With Advertising and Finally Learning to Love My Whole, Fat Self" (published by Little, Brown in 2026). Lu is a 2023 New York State Council on the Arts / New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in nonfiction literature, and their writing has been supported by Mass MoCA, the Vermont Studio Center, Craigardan, and Tin House.

Isabel Arévalo is a potter and printmaker based in Western Massachusetts. She holds a BA from Carleton College, and has taught printmaking to youth, teens and adults. She is currently an apprentice at Stonepool pottery with Mark Shapiro. Her work seeks to make visible the hidden connections between the physical body, the natural world, and identity.

Grace Fossett. Through clay and illustration, Grace seeks to actively blur the historical boundaries between fine art and craft. By using traditional handbuilding and surface design techniques, they give their pots and sculptures depth and breadth by world-building narratives through a trans non-binary lens. Dealing in dreams and histories, real and imagined, Grace's visual lexicon acts as a narrator, spiraling storyteller, and subject.
