ROLES WE WILL BE AUDITIONING FOR:
Narrator
- can be played by any gender
- The person telling the story.
Alice
- A curious and sensible young girl, Alice is the protagonist who begins the story by falling down a rabbit hole after the White Rabbit.
Grounded in reason, she is constantly challenged and frustrated by the nonsensical logic of Wonderland, causing her to question her own identity and perception of the world.
She experiences dramatic changes in her size, which further complicates her sense of self as she tries to adapt to the unpredictable environment.
The White Rabbit
- can be played by any gender
- An anxious and harried creature, serves as a kind of official in Wonderland, always rushing and checking his or her pocket watch because he or she is "late".
He or she unintentionally guides Alice through the beginning of her journey, but is too frantic to be a reliable guide.
The Cheshire Cat
- can be played by any gender
- A mysterious, grinning feline who can vanish and reappear at will, often leaving only his or her smile behind.
A philosophical provocateur, he or she gives cryptic and confusing advice to Alice, enjoying her bewilderment.
He or she introduces Alice to the idea that everyone in Wonderland, including herself, is mad, and his or her actions reflect a detachment from the chaos.
The Mad Hatter
- can be played by any gender
- An eccentric, rude, and nonsensical host of a perpetual tea party, stuck at six o'clock (teatime).
His or her erratic behavior and unanswerable riddles embody the absurdity of Wonderland's social etiquette.
The character is a nod to the phrase "mad as a hatter," which refers to real-life hatters who suffered from mercury poisoning.
The March Hare
- can be played by any gender
- The equally manic and energetic companion of the Mad Hatter at the mad tea party.
He or she enthusiastically participates in the chaos. His or her name is an allusion to the real-life behavior of hares during their spring breeding season.
The Dormouse
- can be played by any gender
- A perpetually sleepy creature who dozes at the Mad Tea Party, sometimes used as a cushion by the Hatter and the March Hare.
He or she is easily startled, and famously sent into a panic by any mention of a cat.
The Queen of Hearts
- A tyrannical and volatile ruler, known for her foul temper and her frequent demand of "Off with their heads!" for even minor offenses.
A symbol of arbitrary and unjust authority, she rules Wonderland with a sense of entitlement and brute force.
Tweedledee and Tweedledum
- can be played by any gender
- The twin siblings that are silly, childish, can be identical in appearance and manner. The two are jolly who look and act almost exactly alike. They love to recite poetry and games, but they have a constant, petty sibling rivalry, and bizarre riddles. They delight in confusing Alice with logic that is absurd from her perspective but makes perfect sense within their own world.
Flower Ensemble
- will all be female performers
- Dancing flowers
