Due to additional time needed for the electrical work taking place in Building C at COA – Elizabeth City, the building will be without power on Monday, Feb. 16.

The following programs are impacted: Electrical, Welding, Cosmetology, Computer/IT, Pottery and CCR (College and Career Readiness).

Only CCR classes will report on Monday. CCR instructors will notify students of their temporary classroom locations.

All other impacted classes listed above will not meet on Monday. Instructors will communicate directly with students regarding any updates, make-up plans or adjustments.

Staff should report as normal; however, work locations may change. The FC building will not have heat due to the ongoing electrical work. Employees scheduled to work in FC should dress warmly. Contact your supervisor if alternative arrangements are needed.

The Bookstore will be closed Monday. This outage may extend beyond Monday. Updates will be provided as soon as possible.

COA to Open at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5

Due to anticipated overnight winter weather and out of an abundance of caution, College of The Albemarle (COA) will operate on a delayed opening at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. This delayed opening provides additional time for road and campus conditions to improve and for everyone to travel safely.

Classes and activities scheduled before 10:00 a.m. are canceled or modified. Instructors will provide additional information for students. Classes beginning at or after 10:00 a.m. will proceed as scheduled. Employees should report at 10:00 a.m. unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.

Because the college serves multiple counties and road conditions may vary, students and employees are encouraged to use their best judgment when traveling. Anyone unable to report should notify their instructor or supervisor as soon as possible.

While no additional schedule changes are anticipated for Thursday morning, please continue to monitor COA Alerts for any necessary updates.

College of The Albemarle will operate on a delayed opening on Wednesday, Feb. 4, to allow additional time for roads to continue to melt and conditions to improve.

Classes will begin with those scheduled to start at 10 a.m. All classes, including in-person courses, will resume as normal beginning at 10 a.m. Classes scheduled to begin before 10 a.m. are canceled, and instructors will provide information regarding make-up work or modified schedules.

Employees should report to work at 10 a.m., unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.

COA Campuses Closed Saturday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 1 Due to Anticipated Winter Weather

Due to anticipated winter weather in our area this weekend, all College of The Albemarle campuses will be closed to students and employees on Saturday, Jan. 31, and Sunday, Feb. 1.

All classes and activities scheduled for this weekend are canceled. Instructors will communicate directly with students regarding any course-related updates, as needed.

All COA locations will be closed to everyone this weekend.

Based on the current winter weather forecast, additional impacts to college operations are possible next week. Students and employees are encouraged to prepare for potential closures and the possibility of remote or virtual/online schedules.

Earlier this morning, COA was made aware of a possible gas leak at the Owens Center at
COA - Elizabeth City. Emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene and evaluated the situation. They issued the all-clear, and no leak was found.

The situation has been resolved. Students, employees, and visitors have returned to the building, and normal operations have resumed.
