Encore Theatre Company

Encore Theatre Company Welcome to Encore Theatre Company's Page! Let us know what you think about the hardest working, mem Elizabeth City is located in Northeastern, North Carolina.

The area has had a long history of supporting the performing arts and yet in 1992 there were no active community theater organizations. A small group of thespians who wanted to perform and bring live theater back to the area banded together and created Encore Theatre Company. During the early years, we schlepped our sets from venue to venue to perform. In 1995, we partnered with the Pasquotank Art

s Council (now operating as Arts Of the Albemarle) and created a small black box theater located in the arts council called The Main Street Stage, which was our home for 13 years. In 2007, we moved our performances to the newly renovated Maguire Theater inside The Center operated by Arts Of the Albemarle in downtown Elizabeth City where we currently perform from October thru April.

If you haven't already heard - Tuesdays with Morrie was a resounding success. It helped raise the communities' awareness of our presence and help refill our sagging finances. On another positive note - Encore has been nominated as Non-profit of the year for the Chamber of Commerce. We are up against some heavy hitters, but it is nice to see our name on the list.

Now it is time to roll the credits for this "Small Production." I hope I didn't miss anyone, I tried my best to be complete.

Encore Theatre Company's next performance is "Cotton Patch Gospel," based on a work written by Clarence Jordan whose Koinonia Farm was the birthplace of Habitat for Humanity. https://www.facebook.com/koinoniafarm/

Koinonia Farm is an intentional Christian community located in Americus, GA. We were founded in 1942 to live as a "demonstration plot for the Kingdom of God."

One of our patrons posted this review on his page:
Broadway comes to Elizabeth City in the form of Encore Theater's "Tuesdays with Morrie," currently in production in dinner theater format in Encore's little home on 17 South. Cast and directed masterfully by Peter Thomson and produced even more masterfully by Peter's better half, Sue, the play features two of the area's more skilled thespians, Rodger Rossman and Dean Schaan, who gave spotless performances in this poignant, bittersweet play about life, friendships, and death, earning the ringing standing ovation given by those recognizing they were in the presence of theater perfection.
But no production moves smoothly without the hundreds of worker-bees who transform the ideas into reality. Well, maybe not hundreds but certainly dozens on dozens, beginning with the parking attendants Frank and Gene and moving into the gracious pours of fun happy hour barkeeps. Of course, no dinner theater goes well without feeding the theater goers and Montero's does this as well as anyone anywhere. Then you have the spirits and kindly haints who dash and flit behind the scenes making things appear to happen with complete ease regardless of that truth, the Sam and Janets, the Bonnie and Emilys, and all those serving and waiting and bussing and ushering and and and.....! As Peter is wont to say, "It takes a village to make good theater." And good theater it was.
A must-see production.
