I soaked in the world
until its edges softened.
What I was taught to divide
slowly learned how to merge
breath into breath,
story into story.
I carried many names,
many places,
many fears
that were never truly mine.
They dissolved
when I listened closely enough
to the silence beneath them.
Roots taught me this
nothing survives alone.
The earth does not ask
where the rain comes from.
The sky does not choose
which bodies deserve light.
So why did we?
I am no longer standing apart.
I am standing within.
Your sorrow hums in my bones.
Your joy rises in my chest.
What heals you
reshapes me.
This is not arrival.
This is remembrance.
The long marination of the soul
where separation forgets its name
and humanity returns
to one body,
one breath,
one becoming.

Traveler 1 (Eternal Good bye), by Gordon Arzu, from “Migration – A Journey Towards Oneness”, through October 15th
Acrylics on plywood, 51 × 35¾ inches

Eternal Good bye is one of three pieces from the series called “Travelers”.

This piece represents the nostalgia of missing home and the people you love who stayed behind. It also represents the realization that once you have been away from home for so long, the place you were longing to go back to does not exist anymore. Most of your friends have moved away, some family members have passed on, your street does not look the same anymore. That place, those experiences and memories that helped shape who you are today, exist only in your mind.

Today in history: the US Supreme Court ruled that the Mende people who took control of the Amistad were indeed free men, upholding a lower court decision and guaranteeing their freedom.

This is a vision of men laying down their weapons and caring for the children of the world, giving whatever the child needs. Above the men nurturing the children is a vision of the Supreme Concourse coming to aid the children.

Chitra
Saturday, March 14th • 8:00 PM
https://www.greenacre.org/event/chitra-classical-kathak-ariaki-dandawate/

Chitra (meaning “portrait”) is an evening-length Kathak solo with Ariaki Dandawate that presents distinct vignettes of the form’s rhythmic precision and expressive range. Through traditional compositions, the work highlights how Kathak’s unique technique and storytelling complement each other, from intricate footwork and complex rhythmic structures to nuanced expression.

At the heart of Chitra is Kathak’s dynamic relationship with its audience. Through spoken rhythmic syllables and interactive exchange the performance transforms rhythm into imagery: painting moments drawn from everyday life and the natural world. Humor, playfulness, tenderness, and intensity emerge side by side, offering a richly textured experience.

Engaging and immediate, Chitra presents Kathak as an art form driven by rhythm and human connection — one that speaks across backgrounds and invites audiences into a shared space of feeling, imagination, and discovery.
