Pfizer is the only approved vaccine for 16 and 17 year olds, and it's available here at the Eastside Recreation Center this week.

*Parent/guardian must sign consent form for 16 and 17 year olds and also be present at appointment.

Every Illinoisian age 16+ is now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Currently, Pfizer is the only approved vaccine for 16- and 17-year-olds, so make sure you select a Pfizer appointment slot on KaneVax.org.

Reminder in order for those under the age of 18 to receive a vaccine, they MUST bring a parent or guardian with to the appointment to give consent.

Abre el Centro de Vacunación Kane/Cook Elgin en el East Side Recreation Center (ERC). Para agendar su cita, visite kanevax.org. Si necesita ayuda agendando su cita, puede visitar la biblioteca Gail Borden Public Library y allí le podrán ayudar.

The Kane County Board Office and the Kane County Health Department, in collaboration with Cook County and the City of Elgin, will launch a vaccination site at Elgin’s Eastside Recreation Center, located at 1080 East Chicago Street, Elgin, IL 60120. It will open Wednesday, April 7, and operate six days per week. Exact days and hours are still being coordinated and will be partially based upon vaccine availability.

“The City is proud to host a vaccination site in Elgin and support all of the counties’ efforts to help get as many Elgin residents vaccinated as quickly as possible, especially our underserved population that will benefit from this site’s ideal location,” said Dave Kaptain, Mayor of the City of Elgin.

The site will offer free COVID-19 vaccines to all eligible Illinoisans. For vaccinations administered at the new Elgin location, registration is required. Residents can get appointments by going to www.kanevax.org or by calling 855-4-KaneVax.

We are truly disappointed to say that the Eastside Recreation Center will remain closed this year (2021). We appreciate all our loyal members, patrons, and guests who have become part of our ERC family over the years and hope to serve you again in the future.

As uncertainties associated with group recreational activities persist and minimum wage increases, this year's parks and recreation department operations will continue with many of the reduced service levels first established in 2020, which includes keeping the Eastside Recreation Center and Lords Park Pool closed this year.

During this time, ERC fitness members can use the Edward Shock Centre of Elgin’s fitness facility. If you have time left on your ERC membership from when we closed in March – you can use those days towards your membership at The Centre or request for a prorated refund of your remaining days.

While we do not yet have a set opening date for ERC - we want to remind everyone of their option to work out at The Centre of Elgin during this time.

As a member of ERC – you can use your current membership card at The Centre. To activate your membership, please email Brett Lind ([email protected]) and Santiago Cervantes ([email protected]) to let us know when you want to start coming to The Centre of Elgin for workouts. We will extend your membership accordingly based on the number of days missed during the closure. As soon as ERC opens – you will be able to switch back to working out at ERC right away.

If you choose to wait until ERC is able to open, we will activate and extend your membership from your start date back at ERC. If you are not comfortable coming back yet – we can also wait and activate your membership when you feel ready. We are really looking forward to having you back at the Eastside Recreation Center and will keep you updated with details of our future opening date.

📣 City of Elgin Initiates Reopening of Some Public Facilities:
With Illinois expected to move into Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan on Friday, June 26, the City of Elgin announces plans for reopening certain public facilities that have been closed during the governor’s stay-at-home orders, beginning Monday, June 29. Reopening plans will operate under the conditions outlined in Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan.

🏛 City Hall will open to the public on Monday, June 29. Facility improvements have been implemented to ensure the safety of the public.
🧘‍♀️ The Centre of Elgin will reopen to the public on Monday, June 29, adhering to Phase 4 guidelines. The workout facility and indoor lap pool will be available to a limited number of members, in 90 minute intervals. Other amenities, including the walking track, are not available at this time but may become available as Phase 4 progresses. Group fitness classes will be available but subject attendee limitations.
🥎 The Elgin Sports Complex is now expected to be able to permit competitive events after June 29. Staff is working with tournament organizers to conduct previously scheduled tournaments at the Sports Complex.
🏋️‍♂️ The Eastside Recreation Center will not be reopening on June 29. In the interim, ERC individual monthly memberships will be accepted at The Centre during the month of July.
