Dance has been such a part of my life for so long. I am grateful for my years at Betty Hill. It provided a great foundation, that still holds firm today! It’s hard to believe this was 30 years ago.

Life update from Anna. If you know me, I never miss work or dance. Unless I’m seriously ill. This time it’s just that. I’m battling a massive infection that has taken hold in the soft tissue of my face, but I’m staying positive. I might look a bit like Quasimodo at the moment, but time at the hospital and some CT scans have given us a clear path forward - it’s just a tough infection that needs time to heal.

The real challenge is that it’s left me feeling totally knocked out. So you won’t see me in class this week, but I’m grateful for an incredible support system. Thanks to Ally, Haley, and Mallory for stepping in without hesitation to keep classes running smoothly. And special thanks to Haley for being a rockstar and driving me to the ER and hanging there during a tornado warning.

I’m looking forward to being back to full strength next week. In the meantime, I’m giving myself some extra time to recover and will delay handing out costumes by a week. If you have any questions, please let me know.

As we inch closer to recital, lots of things will be happening. Costumes will go home in a couple of weeks. For your kiddo to take their costumes home, your account must be current. Accounts must be paid in full no later than May 29 to participate in recital. If you have questions, please let me know.

Another competition weekend in the books!!! 🏅

Apologies for the late post but sometimes it takes a minute for me to process. These kids danced beautifully again. The growth that they have in a year’s time is sometimes baffling. The seniors brought it and performed their solos the best I have seen them. I might have had an emotional breakdown (or two) about them leaving. It’s fine, I’m fine, everything’s fine… 😢

On top of the great adjudications and placement awards, we also won costume and entertainment awards. This is so flattering but the BIG news is our whole team dance which is a nearly six minute production that features 22 kids, ages 6-18, won the Edge Award for the Branson competition. That means we were the highest scoring group dance in our level for the whole weekend! 👏👏👏

I am so proud of these kids and what we produce at our studio! It was the cherry on the top of our competition season!

Competition weekends are exhilarating, emotional and exhausting. We spent two days in Topeka and are coming home with excellent adjudications, placements, tons of judge’s choice awards as well as costume and choreography awards. Our whole team dance was amazing and took home Platinum.

Awards aside, I am so proud of these kids. From the littles at their very first competition to the seniors at their very last ones and everything in between. The kids showcased our studio beautifully and I could not be more proud to be their teacher. Now we’ll take a mini break and enjoy spring break and we’ll get back at it after Easter!
