America at 250 will open with John Williams' "Summon the Heroes" from the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The Olympic Games are a time for all countries to come together in the camaraderie of sport, and we're proud to celebrate that tradition of camaraderie. George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue might be most known for that jazzy clarinet opening, inspired by the "strange sounds" the original clarinetist Ross Gorman.

WCWS is fortunate to be led by our Concertmaster Jonathan Galbreath, who takes on the strange sounds and makes them sound amazing!

Dr. James Lent is on the faculty of UCLA where he is head of Collaborative Piano, and has a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University. He performed with orchestras including the Torrance Symphony, Shanghai Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, Utah Symphony, Florida West Coast Symphony, and the Vancouver Symphony. He was also a winner in the New York Concert Artists Guild Competition.

And the highlight of his career (I'm sure he would agree), Dr. Lent is joining the West Coast Wind Symphony to play Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue this June 13!
