"Moving away from the patriarchy and creating something more balanced means letting go of any father-figure-type of authority, letting go of anybody outside of ourselves telling us what needs to happen, what should happen, how to make it happen - and without this father figure we're really left alone with the need to learn to listen inwardly, trust hints and signs from life, trust how we feel, trust thoughts, ideas, trust events, responsiveness...As we enter a new terrain where the feminine has a prominent place many of us are afraid to let go of this idea of an outside authority - and the discipline and the responsiveness and the true listening and true faith and respect for feeling that has to be developed is so potent, it's so important, it's so big that we need this training in turning inward and trusting and discriminating. It's a formless way of living, and open way of living, and if we're not watchful and courteous in the deepest sense of serving love then we're going to miss how to live the feminine. The masculine has to be there in service to her, and if we forget that then we've missed a tremendous opportunity to work with the feminine...." Hilary Hart, from her talk "Listening as a container for union"
