Millicent Rogers was the granddaughter of Henry Huttleston Rogers, one of the original founders of Standard Oil. Recognized as a style icon, Millicent also designed her own jewelry after she was stricken with rheumatic fever at age ten. The disease would cripple her health and eventually cause her death. Millicent Rogers was known for her beauty, famous romances and keen intellect. She was a devot

ed patriot during World War ll and loving mother to three sons. In the last years of her life, she lived in Taos, New Mexico where she found beauty and peace in the land and a deep kinship and respect for the Native American peoples and cultures here. The Millicent Rogers Museum acquires, preserves, and educates the public about the arts and cultures of the Southwest. Please note: November 1 - March 31 the museum will shift to winter hours. This meaningful exhibition honors the art, history, and living traditions of New Mexican acequias, celebrating the deep connections between water, land, culture, and community.

It was a proud moment for the community to celebrate the artists, co-curators Toby Morfin and Claire Pelaez Motsinger, and everyone who helped bring this meaningful show to life.

Join us tonight, Saturday May 2nd from 5 to 7pm, for an opening reception of our new exhibition La Acequia, Nuestra Madre: Art and history of New Mexican waterways! We are so excited to present this important show and the spectacular work of the exhibiting artists.

In honor of the opening, the musical trio Las Peonias will be performing. Las Peonías are a musical group rooted in the high desert of Albuquerque, New Mexico — planted by Sam Scorsbaca, Xazziel Martinez, and Mundo Marquez — playing original songs and traditional corridos in the spirit of peace, love and joy for all. The name carries two things at once: the peón, a humble servant of the soil, and the peonía, the flower that blooms full or not at all. Our music lives in that in-between — the hands and the soil, the labor and the beauty, the old world and the new horizon. Las Peonías formed the way most true things do: not by plan, but by tending what was already growing.
