“There is a philosophy that says that if something is unobservable -- unobservable in principle -- it is not part of science. If there is no way to falsify or confirm a hypothesis, it belongs to the realm of metaphysical speculation, together with astrology and spiritualism. By that standard, most of the universe has no scientific reality -- it's just a figment of our imaginations.”
- Leonard Susskind

“Portland Winter Light Festival” submitted by Black Unicorn Collective

The Portland Winter Light Festival is an annual event that showcases over 114 illuminated art installations, performances, events, etc. Its mission is to connect the community and enrich the public realm through artful lighting. This PVC sculptural light piece was programmed to be sound responsive. When the drummer played, a microphone picked up the sounds and translated into light.

We love model making! ...and figuring out how we’re gonna make stuff and why something isnt working. Today’s Unicorn sesh included multiple revisions, tooo much wire and some questionable expletives. .

We’re kinda blown away by all the cool things that are unfolding after the CODAsummit last week in El Paso. Here’s a fun question from someone over on twitter. It was hard to pick 3! For now, we settled on resources, magic and relationships. .

We had an amazing couple days in friendly El Paso at the Museum of Art for the CODAsummit: The Intersection of Art, Technology and Place.

So many ideas were generated, inspired and confirmed...our sketchbooks are full!
There were too many terrific presentations and works of art - it’s tough to list them all! It was wonderful to meet the incredible artists, fabricators, architects, industry leaders and art commissioners...plus some great hometown Portland peeps and PDX connections. Thank you, El Paso and CODAworx! .

It’s been horns down this summer learning all about structures, surfaces, and materials. Here are two new favorites that are right up our alley when it comes to polarizing light and magic. Our Materials Science Wizard can’t wait to get this stuff under the ‘scope! 🦄🌈💕

“Untangled” submitted by /

Untangled is a 9 panel painting, as well as a metaphor and a process for untangling limiting stories, beliefs and behaviors. Initially created for TEDxConcordiaUPortland, Untangled was installed at the Portland International Airport for six months. The PDX Art Program provides a showcase for artwork that reflects the values of the Port of Portland and the region.

Discovering new materials that are incredibly exciting! This gorgeous UV protected surface has silver dots printed on it which means we can print circuits! And just held in mah fingers a fabric that collects ambient sound and transforms the energy collected into heat. Eeee!
