Kids Play was Very quite this week. We heard from some of our regular customer that their kids where home sick. We appreciate the conscientiousness and consideration of those parents that kept their sick kids at home rather than bringing them to play.

I want to address the issue of sick kids playing at Kids Play and what we do to keep the playground clean and germ free. We Clean! We clean all of our surfaces--including the toys--regularly. More about this later on. First, let me tell you that we vacuum our carpets. You may not know it, but carpets help to clean the air. Here's how that works. Germs attach to surfaces and can lie their for some time. Dust particles are tiny surfaces, but big enough for germs to attache themselves to. Most of the dust at home we know is actually skin flakes floating in the air--sorry, I now that's gross for those of you that didn't know that. At kids play I would imagine that most of the dust is not skin, because we remove our clothes at home and most everyone remains clothed white at the playground. Never the less, what ever the dist is made up of, our carpet does a great job of attracting it out of the air. I think static electricity has something to do with it. Carpets work somewhat like those hydro-static air cleaners. The carpet helps us clean the air of dust and we vacuum regularly to keep the carpet clean, so that it keeps cleaning the air.

We also ask you to take your shoes off before coming into the playground. Good Morning America, and others, studied the bottom of street shoes and discovered that they are full of bad bacteria and other things we don't want on our carpet. You can watch it on-line.

Earlier, I talked about cleaning all of our surfaces. At home I have been cleaning without chlorine chemical cleaners for almost two years without more than one or two instances of colds and no fevers AT ALL! So, I know my cleaning methods work. WE DO MORE! When I hear that some of our little customers have been sick, I bring out the big guns. We clean everything--and I mean, everything--with the best germ killer around. Just ask your favorite surgeon, because they swear by it. The big gun I'm speaking about is 70% isopropyl alcohol. I don't use the 91% isopropyl alcohol. It's too strong. The 70% solution does an awesome job of vanquishing germs. Use it at home. I do!
