If you need an easy way to move your upright piano around a building, twin dollies are a good option. Each dolly is secured to the rear of the piano with heavy bolts once it is in place. This is a pair recently ordered for a school in St. Louis.

Here's a small jig I've used to remove the pins on piano pedals for easy repair or replacement -- using a simple automotive tie rod puller, wrench, and the careful placement of the pedal, which can be clamped to the device if necessary. A small countersink hole drilled in the end of the nut helps keep the pin from moving or bending as the bolt is tightened. A piano can also be put on its back and the entire bottom removed, but it is obviously more involved. On some pianos a pedal can be removed without removing the pins entirely. - S. Rensberry

Regulation and adjustment of a piano action is key to how it feels when playing and involves assessing the hammer condition, levelness of the keys, height and depth of keys, strike distance, and the propery working of each key. Often an aging piano needs only a partial regulation, as some parts and felts wear more than others, so the fee will vary depending on estimated time. There is no charge for estimates within our general service area.

In response to a recent question about tuning fees -- Rensberry Piano charges just $95/tuning in the Metro East (Madison and St. Clair counties in Illinois), with a modest mileage fee added for adjacent counties and further distances, and with scheduling flexibility. Very large pitch raises can be extra. Our goal is to provide affordable and quality piano tuning and repair services to customers in the greater St. Louis area and in Southwestern Illinois.
