Job Title: Part-Time Tech Associate
Department: Tech/Maintenance
Reports To: Facilities Director
Status: Part-Time (25 hours/week) Flexible hours
Position Summary
The Tech Associate plays a vital hands-on role in bringing our productions to life while assisting in the day to day operations and maintenance of Barn Lot facilities. From building sets and painting sceneries to assisting with venue upkeep, this role requires technical adaptability, physical stamina, and a strong collaborative attitude. Must be able to pass a background check.
Key Responsibilities
Set Construction & Scenic Art: Assist with cutting, assembling, and building stage scenery according to technical drawings/blueprints; paint sets using basic scenic art techniques.
Production Support: Lift, move, and position heavy staging equipment, set pieces, furniture and lighting fixtures during load-in’s and strikes.
Facilities Maintenance: Perform basic building maintenance, light repairs, inventory organization, and general upkeep of the theater space.
Deadline Management: Work efficiently with the technical team to meet hard production deadlines.
Collaborative Support: Partner closely with designers and fellow crew members to solve real-time production challenges during runs.
Qualification Preferences
Demonstrated experience in carpentry, painting, theatrical tech, or general facilities maintenance.
Ability to regularly lift 75+ lbs, climb ladders, and comfortably work in physically demanding environments.
Proficiency with common hand tools and power tools (saws, drills, sanders).
High reliability, a strong team-first mindset, and effective communication skills
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This role involves standing for long periods, active lifting, climbing, and working with paints, wood, and hardware tools.
