Do you ever wonder, “What are they saying?” 🧐
Ballet is full of pantomime and storytelling through movement — but sometimes it’s hard to catch every detail. So we added subtitles to this scene from Act I of Giselle to help bring the story to life.
Here, Giselle meets Bathilde, a noblewoman visiting the village with a hunting party. Giselle is captivated by Bathilde’s beautiful dress and kind demeanor — unaware that Bathilde is engaged to the man Giselle has fallen in love with.
You’ll also see Berthe, Giselle’s mother, warn Giselle not to dance because of her fragile heart, an important detail that foreshadows the tragedy still to come.
