Meet Kelsey Fisher-Waits (she/her/hers), Acting Faculty in UCO Theatre Arts and the director of DRACULA: A FEMINIST REVENGE FANTASY, REALLY.
✨ What is your favorite part of the rehearsal process?
“I love talking to my actors. I'm a big fan of character work... They come up with the coolest stuff, and it makes me happy to help them get their own fingerprints all over the shaping of their role!”
✨ What has been the biggest challenge?
“This play wants to be a movie! The script is amazing, but the playwright does not make it an easy task to take it from page to stage... This has allowed us to come up with lots of creative ways to get from point A to point B, and we're doing so by embracing theatricality all the way!”
✨ Can you share a fun behind-the-scenes fact?
“Glitter maaaay be used in ways audiences won't expect... 🙂”
✨ Do you have a pre-show ritual?
“...I find it's helpful for me to just have that moment of quiet and focus. I also listen to a song that we feature in a really fun way within the show.”
✨ What has been your favorite Halloween costume?
“You know what is wild, as I am an October girly through and through, is that I've never been a big costume gal. I think it started because my birthday is October 30th, so I've always joked that for Halloween my standing costume is Kelsey...one year older.”
✨ Will you be dressing up for our Halloween performance?
“I’ll say that my outfit will be a tip of the cap to our show. Vampire-adjacent, if you will.”
