When I tell people I own a rage room, I usually get one of two reactions. “Wait… you actually let people destroy things?” Or “That sounds like SO much fun.” And honestly, both are true. Yes, we let people put on protective gear, pick up a weapon, and absolutely destroy things. There is something ridiculously fun about it.
But after owning Chaos Factory, I've realized something I never expected when we started this business:
We're not really in the business of breaking things.
We're in the business of helping people let go. I've watched people walk through our doors carrying things you can't always see. Stress from work, a bad breakup, a difficult season of life, family problems, burnout, an overwhelming week. Sometimes they're just tired. Sometimes they don't even know exactly why they need to get something out. And then they put on the gear, walk into the room, pick up a bat and smash something.
They laugh, scream, make a mess and they smile. And when they walk back out, there's something different about them. Maybe it's just that they got to be silly for 30 minutes. Maybe they finally had permission to be loud. Maybe they got to do something completely outside of their normal routine. Or maybe, for just a little while, they got to stop thinking about everything else.
That's the part of this business that means the most to me.
I love watching a group of friends come in laughing and leave laughing even harder. I love seeing parents bring their kids in for an experience they'll talk about for weeks. I love watching coworkers who spend all day being professional finally get to cut loose together. I love the date nights, birthday celebrations, girls' nights, family outings, and the people who tell us, “I didn't know how badly I needed that.” Those moments are why we do what we do. Because sometimes people don't need another lecture about relaxing. They don't need someone telling them to “just calm down.” They just need a place where they can let it out. And we get to provide that place.
Chaos Factory has become part of our community.
We're proud to be a local business where people can come together, make memories, laugh until their stomach hurts, and experience something they can't get just anywhere. We're also proud that what we do gives people a reason to get off their phones, get out of the house, and actually do something together. Because life can get pretty serious. There are bills, jobs, school, responsibilities, family, deadlines, bad days. Sometimes you just need to grab a bat and destroy a printer! There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, sometimes it's exactly what you need.
And here's what I want people to know.
You don't have to be an angry person to come to a rage room. You don't have to be going through a terrible time. You don't have to have some huge reason. You can come because you're curious. You can come because your best friend dared you. You can come because you're celebrating. You can come because you want the most unusual date night you've ever had. You can come because your coworkers need to blow off some steam. Or you can come simply because you've always wanted to know what it feels like to smash something without someone yelling, “Don't break that!” Whatever brings you through our doors, we're happy you're here! Because every time someone walks out of Chaos Factory smiling, laughing, or telling us, “That was exactly what I needed,” I'm reminded why I love owning this business. :-)
We're creating memories.
We may spend our days surrounded by broken TVs, dishes, bottles, and electronics, BUT what we're really creating is something completely different. We're creating connection, a place where people can release a little stress and have a whole lot of fun. And if we can make someone's day just a little bit better? Then every smashed piece of junk is worth it. So if you've never tried a rage room before, maybe it's time. Grab your friends, bring your family, plan a date, book a birthday, bring your coworkers, or just come SMASH some stuff.
