🎬 STORIES OF COURAGE, CONNECTION & THE UNEXPECTED

Three films take audiences from the coast of England to Zimbabwe and all the way back to 1903 Texas, each with a story about the unexpected paths life can take.

Pieces of Us, directed by Ben Fullman, follows an American author and a young Cornish woman whose growing connection forces them to confront grief, hidden secrets, healing, and hope.

RISE, directed by Jessica J. Rowlands, follows a young boy living on a rubbish dump in Zimbabwe who convinces a reclusive boxing coach to train him. Inspired by true events, his journey becomes one of courage, belonging, and discovering his own strength.

Outlaw Josie Wayles, directed by Brandon Lee Keropian, changes the pace with a Western action comedy. Through an old family photo album, audiences travel back to 1903 Texas to discover how bounty hunter Cody Suarez and outlaw Josie Wayles first met.

Three very different stories, each exploring the people, circumstances, and unexpected moments that can change the direction of a life.

🎬 STORIES OF FAMILY, CONNECTION & THE BONDS WE CARRY

Five short films explore the relationships that shape us, from parents and children to unexpected friendships formed in the most unlikely circumstances.

Adagio, directed by Joseph Balderas, follows a soon-to-be father who returns home to care for his estranged father as advancing dementia forces them toward an unexpected reconciliation.

Friend of the Enemy, directed by Samuel Balas, takes us to 1943 Texas, where a wounded WWI veteran and a German POW form an unlikely friendship despite the war surrounding them.

Nan, directed by Genaro T. Pérez, follows a 10-year-old boy who suddenly finds himself becoming the "man of the house" after the death of his father.

Take Me Home, directed by Fabian Martin, explores an estranged mother and daughter whose relationship reaches a turning point when the mother, living with Alzheimer's, leaves her assisted living facility in search of her husband.

The Light Between Us, directed by Teresa Fernandez, shares a heartfelt Día de los Mu***os story about a father, son, and the traditions that keep the people we love close.

Together, these films remind us that family, love, memory, and connection can take many different forms.

🎬 STORIES OF HISTORY, RESILIENCE & CHANGE

Three documentaries explore the people, communities, and experiences that remind us how history is preserved and change begins.

Cycles of Resilience: A Journey Through Austin's Black History, directed by Ya'Ke Smith, follows hundreds of cyclists on a Juneteenth ride through Austin, uncovering under-told stories of Black history, resilience, and freedom.

How They Built a Movement, directed by Oddett Garza, features civil rights attorney Jim Harrington reflecting on the grassroots organizing that challenged injustice and helped transform communities across Texas.

SONS, directed by Eli Brooks Davidson, rounds out this collection of documentary storytelling with another powerful perspective on people and the experiences that shape their lives.

Together, these films look at where we've been, the people who pushed for change, and the stories that continue to shape our communities today.

Three young Texas screenwriters. Three original ideas. Three minutes each to make their pitch.

The Pitch-Texas Student Division gives high school writers the opportunity to step in front of a panel of film professionals and pitch an original story live at STXIFF 2026.

Meet this year's finalists:

Escapism, written by Alexandra Guerrero

RINGMASTER'S JUNCTION, written by Diego Alberto Calderon, follows a young woman searching for her missing brother after he disappears inside a beloved carnival hiding a horrifying secret.

The Joke's On Me, written by Miguel Angel Martinez, asks what happens when a person's dream is crushed and turns into despair.

Each finalist will have just three minutes to bring their idea to life before receiving questions and valuable feedback from the panel.

Come support the next generation of Texas storytellers and see what it takes to pitch an idea from the page to the industry!

Four films bring powerful stories of determination, healing, identity, and community to STXIFF 2026.

Eclipse Outlaw Chase, directed by Noah David Wetzel, follows an ambitious 250-hour photography project to capture a western outlaw chase beneath the 2024 total solar eclipse.

Hope for the Guadalupe, directed by Ben Masters, reflects on the devastating 2025 Texas Hill Country floods and the Texans working together to restore the Guadalupe River and help their communities heal.

Un Abrazo Del Otro Lado, directed by Omar A Casas Jr. and Laura Daniela Martinez, follows a young Mexican woman searching for her path as the spirits of her ancestors guide her through an unforgiving journey.

Wonderful World with Clint Townsend, directed by Michael Dean Marbach, shares how Clint's life with ALS inspired friends, Broadway performers, and a community to come together through music, awareness, and support.

Different journeys, all connected by resilience, hope, and the strength we find in one another.

Five short films. Five stories that aren't afraid to explore difficult choices, complicated relationships, and the darker sides of the world around us.

Holmes, directed by Kahlil Maskati and Erik Martinez, follows an uncle and his teenage niece searching for answers surrounding his mother's overdose.

Insensible Losses, directed by Amanda Williams, places a doctor between her responsibilities to a patient experiencing a miscarriage and concerns about her own pregnancy.

In the Mood for Violence, directed by Mario Alberto Zamarripa and Jose Guadalupe Zamarripa, follows a serial killer whose violent path takes an unexpected turn when he develops feelings for one of his victims.

MIAZEL, directed by George Dogaru, takes audiences to a dystopian Romania where ethnic minorities are sent to labor camps and one man's identity suddenly puts him in danger.

Rosalie, directed by Erin McGuff-Pennington, explores friendship, motherhood, and two women facing an intensely personal disagreement over an unexpected pregnancy.

Different stories and perspectives come together for a collection of short films made to challenge, unsettle, and spark conversation.

Two films bring mystery, suspense, and unsettling questions to the screen at STXIFF 2026.

ADELA, directed by Gabriela San Miguel, follows a young woman who returns with her fiancé to her estranged father's remote hacienda. Surrounded by buried trauma, haunting memories, and eerie presences, Adela must confront her past as the line between reality and the supernatural begins to blur.

8:38, directed by Imole Ladipo, begins when May wakes in a room at exactly 8:38 PM with no memory of how she got there. With only one lifeline call and eight minutes to uncover the truth, she must decide whether the voice on the other end is helping her or hiding something darker.

One story confronts the past. The other races against the clock. Both will leave you questioning what is real.

Childhood can be imaginative, exciting, confusing, frightening, and filled with emotions that sometimes feel too big to put into words.

This collection of short films puts young characters and performers at the heart of the stories, exploring childhood from playful adventures to some of its more difficult moments.

Meadow Melody, directed by Alizah Barbee and Alana Lombardi, follows a lamb and goat on a playful journey home.

Raya Among The Clouds, directed by Iane Nicole Artillaga, explores stage fright, family, acceptance, and belonging.

SweetNess, directed by Vanessa Rae Lerma, is a story about confidence and finding the courage to pursue a dream.

The First Date, directed by Diego Calderon and Antonio Diaz, and Yvonne & Beau, directed by Devine Galvan, showcase young talent from the Texas Student Division.

Hide, directed by Brenden Hubbard, and My Safe Place, directed by Brenda Patricia Garza, take on heavier emotions, exploring fear, loss, family, and healing through young perspectives.

Together, these films show just how big childhood feelings can be.
