I made this mixed media piece many years ago at an art retreat in New York.
For years, I kept it tucked away but never completely out of sight. I always meant to frame it, but time has a funny way of escaping us and “someday” kept becoming another day.
When I moved into my new studio, I finally framed it and gave it a home.
And then I noticed this little sentence tucked into the bottom corner.
“I think we all get the chance to do a little rebuilding at some point in our lives.”
Of all the words I chose back then, these might mean the most to me now.
Because I think we hear the word rebuilding and assume something must have fallen apart.
But maybe not.
Sometimes we rebuild simply because we’ve changed.
Maybe something that once fit your life doesn’t anymore.
Maybe you love parts of what you’re leaving behind and still know it’s time for something different.
Maybe everyone around you thinks you’re incredibly brave, while privately you’re wondering what the hell you’re doing.
Maybe you’re excited and scared.
Maybe you’re grieving and hopeful.
Maybe you miss what was without actually wanting it back.
I think more of us live in that messy middle than we admit.
I know I do.
I miss my store. I miss the women, the conversations, the clothes, and the everyday rhythm of it more than I probably say.
And at the same time, I know I want something different for Styled Reverie.
I’m building toward a bigger vision and looking for the right place to eventually bring it all together. A place of my own with parking and freedom to create. A place for beautiful clothing, yes, but also gathering, learning, hosting, conversations, experiences and all the things I’ve imagined Styled Reverie could become.
I haven’t found that place yet.
I don’t have every detail figured out.
And despite what it might look like from the outside, I absolutely do not have my s**t together all the time. 😂
I’m figuring it out while I’m living it.
Maybe you are too.
Maybe you’re rebuilding something right now that nobody else even realizes you’re rebuilding.
Your career. Your confidence. Your home. A relationship. Your dreams. Yourself.
You don’t have to hate the chapter you’re leaving to be ready for another one.
And you don’t have to know exactly what you’re building before you’re allowed to begin.
Funny how something I created all those years ago could have words waiting for me when I finally needed them.
And right above them, another tiny phrase:
and she continued. 💗🌸
