At the end of March, we welcomed 20 K–12 art educators from across the state of Maine to Clay Connected, a leadership conference about the future of arts curriculum in schools. The day concluded with the opening of Maine K–12 Clay, which featured work by 45 students at 26 schools.

The day was all smiles and discussion and dreaming. In the evening, the Barkan Gallery was full of students, their families, and teachers enjoying the expansive range of student work.

Thank you so much to Nicole Seisler, Kelly Hrenko, and Martha Piscuskas for their contributions to the Clay Connected conference. And thank you to all the student and teacher participants—the impact you make in the ceramics community is deeply felt.

All of our K–12 programming is made possible by our incredible donors and through funding from the Onion Foundation.

Maine K–12 Clay is on view at the Barkan Gallery through April 17, 2026. Our gallery hours are M-F 1:30-5pm.
