Thanks everyone for coming to see our show, for being respectful of our neighborhood, and all the kind words people shared. If you wouldn't mind, please leave us a comment and share your favorite song or something you liked from our show this year. Thank you everyone!

Friday night, January 2nd, will be the last night of the season. Then we start taking everything down on Saturday.

Tonight and tomorrow will be your last chance to see our newest addition which is Fight Song by Rachel Platten. This song is dedicated to everyone who has been impacted by cancer.

For the remaining days of this season we are returning to our normal hours of the show ending at 9:30 PM.

Also, we believe that one of the best looking songs from our display last season was Believer by Imagine Dragons, so we are bringing that back starting on Sunday.

Two more for the Q&A list:

1. Are your lights still on?

Yes! Our lights will still be on through at least New Year's Day.

2. How long does it take you to set everything up?

Short answer: We have no idea how many hours in total it takes... and probably don't want to know the answer.

Long answer: Planning, building, and adding new songs occurs throughout the year. We usually start setting up for Halloween around September 1. Then usually the first weekend after Halloween we start switching over to our Christmas display. Our goal each year is to have the Christmas display operational between Thanksgiving to December 1 at the latest. This is our 9th year, so the show has grown every year.

There were 79 song requests tonight, which means almost every song that played tonight was by request. Also, there were 31 songs that each had at least one vote.

Oh my gosh, it's finally here! Christmas Eve? No, the release of the xLights Around the World video for 2025!

The two songs selected for this year were Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, and Magic by Lindsey Stirling featuring David Archuleta. This year had 760 participants from 35 countries. There's a lot to see, but I'm pretty sure there's only one display with an icy pond and a narwhal. Our 4 seconds of fame happen at the 4:27 mark in the bottom left square:

xLights around the world is a video compilation project where the animated lighting community chooses 2 songs, then sequences their displays to either song u...

Q&A: Here are the top 4 questions we've had over the past week:

1. How much is your electric bill?!?

Our electric bill goes up less than $1/day. Everything in our show is powered by smart plugs with energy monitoring, so we can actually see the usage specific to the lights.

2. Do your neighbors hate the show?

No, in fact, many of our neighbors follow us here on Facebook, and we talk to many of them on a regular basis. I was outside fixing a few lights that went out on our mega tree tonight and two separate families stopped to chat, and a few more stopped by in their cars to watch tonight!

3. How many cars stop by each day?

We don't have a car counter, but I can share that tonight 74 different people viewed the website and 52 songs were requested.

4. What's your favorite song, or what's the best song to watch?

Normally we just recommend picking your favorite music, but this week I'm a fan of Narwhals because it's funny. However, here are two that I personally think look the best:

- Star Wars: A red and a green light saber paint across the house and then battle during the song.

- Defying Gravity: This is probably my absolute favorite. At a couple points in the song it's like a magic fairy or pixie flies across the entire display leaving a glittery dust in its wake. During the last few seconds of the song 4 of the mini trees in front of our porch turn into little witches.

More importantly, leave us a comment and let us know your favorite!

We had a lot of fun tonight handing out cookies. There was a party bus around 5:30 PM, which isn't always a good thing, but this one was filled with families with young kids! That was a fun surprise. Next, there were a lot of people we know that stopped by (coworkers, neighbors, and lots of people we know from dance), so it was fun chatting with all of you.

It was also one of the few nights where Golden was not the most requested song. Instead we had a four-way tie for first:
- Candy Cane Lane
- You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch
- Narwhals
- Star Wars Imperial March x Carol of the Bells

Finally, this is probably not a coincidence after yesterday's post, but someone finally requested The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole! We hope you enjoyed it! It's the slowest paced song in our playlist, but it's a classic song and we think it looks great on our display.

Earlier in the week I shared our submission video for xLights Around Minnesota. There were a total of 24 houses (21 from Minnesota, 2 from Wisconsin, 1 from North Dakota) that used the same two songs and submitted their videos. The final result is a compilation video available here:

We had 67 song requests tonight which is a pretty solid number, but wasn't enough to beat the Saturday before Christmas last year which had 85 requests.

At an average of 3 minutes per song, the majority of the songs played tonight were by request. Which means if you want to hear your favorites it's best to make a request on our website when you get to the show.

One last thing, in our playlist of 36 songs there's only one song that somehow hasn't been requested all month. That's the classic The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole ("Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...").

Here's our list of top 5 most requested songs for the past week:

1. Golden
2. Defying Gravity
3. Danger Zone
4. You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch
5. Star Wars Imperial March x Carol of the Bells

Golden is in our normal rotation because of how popular it is. Defying Gravity and Danger Zone are by request only, so it makes sense that they get requests.
