Finnegan Tui

Finnegan Tui Finnegan Tui is a songwriter and producer from New Zealand. An intersection of nature and technology

Finnegan Tui is a multi-instrumentalist, and producer from New Zealand. Ever since his first gig at the age of six he has been obsessed with creating music and has decided his life to sound. After moving to England, he received a scholarship to study Jazz and Electronic Music at the Guildhall Schoo. Alongside his university work he took every opportunity he could get; playing shows all around the

city and composing music for full orchestras, and taking commissions from the Museum of London, Channel 4 and exhibiting sonic works in the Tate Modern and the Barbican. Three years into the course he met his manager and began the journey of recording and releasing his music. He dropped out of Guildhall, to commit full time to begin his career as an artist and create his debut album Zephyr. He is now 21 and halfway through the project having produced the first tracks with Matt Lawrence ( Mumford and Sons + Bjork ) and Charlie Andrew ( Alt-J + Jonny Flynn ). And the debut Single 'Once I'm Gone is scheduled for release on June the 18th. In an attempt to create immersive sonic worlds for his tracks, Finn has worked on incorporating intricate sound design into the songs with Niv Adiri ( Gravity + Batman )

Though at times his personality resembles that of an excitable child, his compositions and lyrics explore the depths of being human. His playfulness comes through in his productions which feature sounds he collects from forests or his kitchen, a-top mountains or rooftops, out in the ocean, a stream or anywhere and everywhere in-between. His music is an attempt to translate the power of nature into sound, and the story of being human into song. An avid traveller and adventurer, Finn's curiosity feeds into all of his work as he translates the world around him into song.

Track 4 - Wildflower

The moment after the sun has set. Before night has wrapped its crow feathered cloak around us. The light begins to change. Red gives way to Blue. DUSK. The Gloaming. Dämmerung. We are between two worlds. My heart slows, the air stills. There is a beast within me shouting that the earth is all it ever wanted. How did I drift so far from myself? The light fades further. How did it take me song long to come back here? The trees on the horizon are turning into silhouettes.

“Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.”

DUSK - THE EP - OUT NOW 🌌

There was a time I was lost. Everything in my life was grey. I went into the wild alone for two weeks with only basic survival tools. In that time I fell in love the world again and wrote a story and 9 songs. Finally here we are! This EP is the first 4 of those songs, the first chapter of a two part project. The day has passed, the sun has set, the sky has turned a dark inky blue. We are in the gloaming, surrounded by Dusk, about to enter the night.

These songs mean the world to me. I have poured my whole heart into them. I hope there in something in them for you. Love 🥹🌌

Produced by Jasper Trim. Featuring Nate Smith, Sean Carey, Zach Hanson,
Izzi Bard, Tom Potter, Daniel Herksedal, The Ocean, The Sky, Fire, Fear, Hope, Dreams,
Katya Barton, India Nugent, Jordan Smart, Jack Turnbull and Ben Nicholls.

dreaming

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
