The Public Painting Project

The Public Painting Project Jo Burke and Sylvia Hecht founded PPP with a goal to foster more public mural art in Eau Claire.

Our primary goals:
-Build relationships with area partners who see the value in growing our public art scene;
-Educate more local artists to enable them to spearhead their own mural projects in the future; and
-Provide financial support for area mural artists as they help to foster artwork in our community. PPP is committed to establishing a fair compensation rate for the artists who create our ci

ty’s beautiful murals. Every dollar of your contribution will go directly toward artist stipends. Every artist/artist team who receives Mural Art Fund sponsorship will be paid for their work at $20 per square foot.

Very excited to be starting this week!

'RIVERS' Our next mural at Owen Park!
We're excited to begin the painting of this great project in a week, and plan to involve community members in the painting of this exciting mural.
The theme is based on the river, with a motif that acknowledges our Sister City, Lismore, Australia. The form of art is referred to as aboriginal, and uses circles and patterns as design elements. In addition, our beloved local writer, John Hildebrand writes about our rivers, and has approved the quotes shown on the walls:
'All rivers are connected. 'There's some comfort in knowing if you live by a river, the wide world lives just downstream.' And, 'Rivers aren't walls; they don't divide, they connect.'

Collaborating with first time mural artists is such an inspiring process 😌

This year we had 22 artists in our mural painting workshop, they all begin with the false belief that they don’t (yet!) know how to create a mural, and throughout the week we show them what they are really capable of! The coolest part is that the students create the design as a group. Both years of the workshop, what our participating artists designed and painted was without a doubt, something that none of us could have come up with alone!
