Dragon Alley

Dragon Alley This page is to keep up with the goings on in Dragon Alley, Easthampton MA.

We are a private residence, but we enjoy neighbors stopping by and we like to throw events - music, drive-in movies, clothing repair, and more - in our fabulous Dragon Alley. Dragon Alley is a private residence on Cottage Street in the heart of the Easthampton Ma Cultural District. We host occasional music and community events and invite our neighbors in Easthampton to join us in our beautiful outdoor space.

Have you ever wondered about the history of dragons?

We did a little bit of research into how the myth of this incredible creature came to be.

While the origins of dragons are often associated with China, currently the first mention of dragons is Sumerian (modern day Iraq), though New York Times didn’t give a specific date.

The Sumerian Dragon Legend was the god-mother Tiamat, who took the form of a legged, horned serpent.

The next mention of dragons is 2700 BC in both Chinese and Indian legends. Then it showed up in Egypt as a mythical dragon called “Apep.”

The mythical dragon then worked its way through Ancient Greek and Rome mythology, along with the Hittites, Babylonians, and Persians.

There’s even a story of dragons among the Inuit, called the “Kikituk.”

However, the story of dragons as we know them today originates from a 315 A.D. English story of St. George rescuing a princess from a dragon. The tale of dragons continued from there.

We’re still darn lucky that dragons are a myth. Some dragons are nice, but could you imagine trying to share an alley with a fire-breathing creature that could eat us humans and only likes gold and jewels?
