Life ’n Death ’n Stuff: The Humorous World of Ken Brown opens this Saturday at 50 Arrow Gallery.

Join us for the reception on Saturday, September 5, from 5 to 8 PM, and spend some time inside the strange, sharp, funny world of Ken Brown.

Brown’s work finds the absurd hiding inside everyday life. Fries swim upstream to spawn. People live with the bomb. Gods give birth. Toaster ovens have something to say. It is funny because it is weird, and maybe a little too familiar.

This exhibition also gives us a chance to use art to support our community. A portion of proceeds from artwork sales will benefit Stavros’ Home Sweet Home program, helping people with disabilities make accessibility modifications to their homes so they can live safely in the communities they choose.

Come see the work. Bring a friend. Laugh at something you probably shouldn’t.

Life ’n Death ’n Stuff: The Humorous World of Ken Brown opens at 50 Arrow Gallery this September, and we want you in the room with us.

Join us Saturday, September 5, from 5 to 8 PM for the opening reception.

Ken Brown’s work is funny, strange, sharp, and deeply human. He takes the familiar stuff of American life, advertising, domesticity, desire, anxiety, and the general absurdity of being alive, and turns it sideways.

This exhibition also supports something close to us. A portion of artwork sales will benefit Stavros Center for Independent Living’s Home Sweet Home program, helping people with disabilities make the accessibility modifications they need to live safely in their own homes and communities.

Tonight was the last Q***r & Trans Yoga with Fran Astino at 50 Arrow Gallery.

We’re sad to see this chapter close, but deeply grateful for what Fran has built here. This has been more than a yoga class. It has been a space for q***r and trans folks to move, breathe, rest, and take up space together without having to explain ourselves first.

Thank you, Fran, for bringing your care, your practice, and yourself into the gallery. Thank you to everyone who showed up, whether you came every week or found your way through the door once. You helped make this space what it was.

Thank you for being part of 50 Arrow.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: KEN BROWN

Before Ken Brown’s work lands on the walls at 50 Arrow Gallery this September, we wanted to tell you a little about the person behind it.

Ken Brown is an American filmmaker, photographer, cartoonist, designer, and collector of the strange corners of American visual culture. He grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts, and began making experimental films in the late 1960s, including psychedelic Super 8 films for the legendary Boston Tea Party. His animations and films have appeared on MTV, VH1, AMC, and Sesame Street, and his visual art has been exhibited from New York and Chicago to Zurich and Tokyo. (Wikipedia⁠)

Brown’s work pulls from vintage advertising, postcards, cartoons, roadside Americana, collage, surrealism, and the everyday weirdness we usually walk right past. It can be funny, unsettling, nostalgic, ridiculous, and sometimes all four at once.

This September, 50 Arrow Gallery is proud to present LIFE ’N DEATH ’N STUFF: THE HUMOROUS WORLD OF KEN BROWN.

There is another reason this exhibition matters to us. Proceeds from sales from the exhibition will support Home Sweet Home, a program of Stavros Center for Independent Living that helps disabled people remain in or return to their own homes through ramps, stairlifts, and other accessibility modifications.

Good art should move through the world. In this case, it can also help somebody get through their own front door.

Dear USA,

It’s not me. It’s you.

We’ve set up a new participatory station at 50 Arrow Gallery as part of , in partnership with the Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI).

The invitation is simple: write a breakup letter to the United States.

Tell it what isn’t working. Tell it what you’re tired of carrying. Tell it what needs to change. Tell it what kind of relationship you actually want.

We’ve got the typewriter, paper, and a place for your letter. You bring the words.

asks us to use the 250th anniversary of the United States not just as a celebration, but as an opportunity to examine our relationship with the country and imagine something different. That kind of public imagination sits right at home with DS4SI’s work using art, design, and collective participation to rehearse more just ways of living together. (ds4si)

On Saturday, October 3, 50 Arrow Gallery welcomes the Gaon Soloists for two special performances at 2 PM and 6 PM.

The Gaon Soloists are a Korean ensemble of disabled and non-disabled musicians whose performances bring together extraordinary musicianship and a belief in the power of art to connect people across difference.

This performance is especially meaningful to us because it will benefit Stavros Center for Independent Living and its work supporting the independence, dignity, and civil rights of people with disabilities across Western Massachusetts.

Join us at 50 Arrow Gallery in Easthampton for an afternoon and evening of music, community, and connection.

Join us on Saturday , May 16 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM for the reception of Small Scale, Epic World, featuring the work of photographer and visual artist Darrell Clemmer.

Darrell will be at the gallery during the reception, and we’d love for folks to come spend time with the work, talk process, and celebrate this incredible show together.

Using toy photography, cinematic lighting, and carefully staged miniature worlds, Darrell transforms familiar characters into something intimate, dramatic, and alive. The result is playful, emotional, and deeply human all at once.

Small Scale, Epic World is currently on view at 50 Arrow Gallery.

Two days. Two receptions. We’re moving.

On Friday, May 15, join us at Holyoke Media from 5:30–7:30 PM for the reception of In Concert, a collaborative exhibition featuring BIPOC artists from across Western Mass. This show brings together a range of voices and perspectives in a shared space, and we’re proud to be part of it.

Then on Saturday, May 16, we’re back at the gallery for the reception of Darrell Clemmer’s Small Scale, Epic World. Darrell will be in the building, and if you’ve seen even a glimpse of this work, you know it’s something special. Precise, cinematic, and full of energy.

If you’ve been meaning to stop by, this is the weekend.
