Flythe at the request of his tax accountant, Donald McAllister, to help provide more financial stability to his self-employed status. The Flythe Group Inc is a small business that provides music entertainment, music lessons, and business administrative and marketing services. Once his small business was incorporated, he shifted the focus of the corporation to help market his musical expertise as w

ell as showcase his talented students throughout Metro Atlanta. Flythe is currently serving as a freelance tuba artist-teacher in the area. He has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony, and the North Carolina Symphony.

The Oberlin community joins the jazz world in mourning the loss of Sonny Rollins, who died on May 25, 2026, at age 95. A towering artist and generous friend to Oberlin, Rollins helped shape the lives of our students through the Sonny Rollins Jazz Ensemble Fund and through his belief that “life is about giving, not taking.” Today, that spirit lives on in the ensemble that bears his name and in the students he hoped would “shed light wherever they go.”
