The Flythe Group Inc is a small business that provides music entertainment, music lessons, and business administrative and marketing services. Once his small business was incorporated, he shifted the focus of the corporation to help market his musical expertise as w

ell as showcase his talented students throughout Metro Atlanta. Flythe is currently serving as a freelance tuba artist-teacher in the area. He has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony, and the North Carolina Symphony.

The Oberlin community joins the jazz world in mourning the loss of Sonny Rollins, who died on May 25, 2026, at age 95. A towering artist and generous friend to Oberlin, Rollins helped shape the lives of our students through the Sonny Rollins Jazz Ensemble Fund and through his belief that “life is about giving, not taking.” Today, that spirit lives on in the ensemble that bears his name and in the students he hoped would “shed light wherever they go.”

🎨🎭🎶 BIG news for Georgia students and fine arts education!

Yesterday, Governor Kemp signed SB 556 into law, expanding HOPE Scholarship rigor recognition to include qualifying advanced fine arts coursework in dance, music, theatre, and visual art.

This legislation supports students pursuing rigorous fine arts pathways while strengthening connections to Georgia’s growing creative industries. Thank you to the educators whose feedback helped inspire this effort and to our state leaders for supporting opportunities that prepare students for life.

It's TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!

Take a moment to thank a music teacher this week! TEACHERS - we see you and we appreciate the work you do for music students in Georgia all day, every day!

Thank you for every early morning and late night. Thank you for the field trips and the events and the daily rehearsals where laughter and creativity are shared. Thank you for always believing in your students in a way that makes them believe in themselves.

And above all else - thank you for creating environments where students can MAKE MUSIC. 🎶💗
