The Slippery Banana Comedy Club is not putting on any more shows!
Why you ask? To be honest, there's no big dramatic reason.
GIANT POST lol. This past weekend was our last show for the foreseeable future and I didn't tell anyone until the end. It was surreal seeing the grand finale unfold before my eyes. An incredible show. People just living in the moment. And after our last raffle of two Banana costumes, I spoke from the heart about the end of this era. The air was sucked out of the room. I explained there was just no room in my life for stand up comedy anymore and proudly reminisced on everything the Slippery Banana stood for. There was applause, there were tears, we laughed, and comedians took turns saying their heartfelt thanks to me. It was beautiful.
It's become more work than play and I wanted to put an end to it before I started to hate it. I've made a lot of sacrifices to see it succeed, but I'm just a person. I'm relieved I can focus on my loved ones, my career, and building the life they and myself deserve.
Luckily, for a comedy club that doesn't own a building to pay for, I can set it aside to do that! And yes, there's no law about having to own a building to be called a comedy club teehee.
The Slippery Banana is an undeniable success and I've proven that with the right people around me, anything we touch turns to gold.
I know it's a long post and not many emojis, but I will reminisce for all of our friends that couldn't be there at the last show. As the Banana Commanda, I made the flyers, posted every day on the social medias, booked the comics, ran the door and merch sales, and paid my comics. There are people who have stayed since day one to make it the success it was. Thank you and thank you all who had a part in it.
I made the Slippery Banana because I wanted a place my friends and I could be exactly who we are, no matter how unusual we may be. And I made a lot of new friends through it all. The challenge of comedy is answering the question "Why is the world funny through your eyes?". And we answered with love to every crowd at our shows. Whether it was funny stories, cheesy dad jokes, a silly song, even props, or being just plain naughty to tickle the brain. Belly laughs were abundant and originality was never in short supply. Unpredictable wit and silliness like Seinfeld, The Simpsons, or classic Late Night TV.
I was never interested in chasing trends or copying whatever is "popular". Nor was I interested in comics who value their own deliberately offensive material for the sake of shock over the crowd's enjoyment. Those types of performers want to be "cool" when the real goal is "funny".
A great comedian's only conviction should be the kind of funny that brings people together. Comedy is tricking an entire room of people to be your friend and you can't do that without being sincere and vulnerable about who you really are. Our shows had a family of comedians who did just that, but it takes a crowd of genuine people to make it a show and together we went to new places. All with just you and a microphone.

If there's ONE thing I can ask all of you, it's to INVEST IN ORIGINALITY with all your heart.
Only cowards try to fit in.
"But it doesn't have that many views", "the popular kids don't like it so I won't either". When it comes to modern day "fame", it's not about the winning lottery numbers, it's about who's holding the ticket; seeing whether or not you'll play along and agree with anything around you just to be a part of the system. Originality is dangerous, to major businesses they want you to follow their trends like good little sheep. Demand originality that takes you to NEW places. Learning new perspectives and unlocking new worlds to explore. If you want nutritional value, don't order from the menu; get cooking yourself. That's freedom.
Head for open waters, don't just float with the current. You are one of a kind and you have an obligation to share that with the world.
Our comedians, those experienced and those who got their start here, keep sharing your talents with the world. To you and all our beloved audience, wear the Slippery Banana shirts with pride of what it represents and stay humble. You CAN be ahead of your time, but you must be patient.
To comedians who are unhappy with their current scenes, you CAN change it. You will make enemies, but you can build something not only funny, but beautiful like I have.
