🌞Well folks, we LUCKED OUT! Raven Hill is so happy to introduce you to Lee-Ann York Knorr - Summer Education Instructor at Raven Hill Discovery Center.

Lee-Ann started with us on June 8th and has been such a pleasure to get to know. Please stop in to say hello soon and learn more about her below.

"Lee-Ann moved to Northern Michigan from Indianapolis in 2017. Since then, she has worked remotely for the online division of a university, helping students succeed from a distance. While the work was meaningful and rewarding, it eventually left this extrovert longing for more face-to-face connection, especially with curious people who share a passion for learning and discovery.

When the opportunity arose to join the team at Raven Hill Discovery Center, Lee-Ann took a leap of faith and applied to work part time alongside Raven Hill's founder, Cheri Leach. She is currently training to facilitate programs and assist in documenting the rich history of Raven Hill, helping preserve its story and legacy for future generations.

Lee-Ann brings nearly 30 years of experience in social services and experiential learning and more than a decade in higher education and student services. As the daughter of a military family, she moved frequently throughout her childhood. Her first husband worked in the oil and gas industry, which meant many more moves as an adult. After losing him following a long illness, Lee-Ann developed a deep appreciation for life's simple gifts and meaningful connections, lessons that continue to shape her outlook today.

When she is not exploring the Discovery Center, Lee-Ann enjoys camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, attending music festivals, playing board games, spending time at the beach, and volunteering throughout the community. She is happily remarried and treasures time with her three grandchildren, with two more grandchildren expected to join the family soon." ♥

⛈ Spring Drama on the Hill, Threads Interwoven: Your Raven Hill Update
https://bit.ly/4vcoBEa

"A storm rolled in over Raven Hill this week—dark clouds gathering, wind rising, and the hill standing steady through it all. Moments like this remind us that this landscape is always in motion, shaped by forces both powerful and subtle. It’s a place of change, resilience, and discovery—qualities that continue to guide our work.

We’re excited to share that this spirit of momentum is reflected in our programs as well. This week, Raven Hill received $25,000 in grant support for our Workshop Upgrade Project, helping us transform our workshop into a year-round learning space....We are deeply grateful to the Oleson Foundation, the Charlevoix County Community Foundation (Donor Advised Funds), and the Great Lakes Energy People Fund for helping move this vision to reality..."

❤ You are APPRECIATED!!

Learning Unleashed, Improved Fish Habitat: Your Raven Hill Update

"As another school year draws to a close, Raven Hill is enjoying one of our favorite traditions: spring field trips. Year-end field trips are a little like releasing a shaken-up bottle of pop. Students arrive with enough energy to power the Alternative Energy House, enough curiosity to fill the Museum, and, sometimes, just enough focus to remember they are supposed to be learning!"

Rhododendrons, like this one here at Raven Hill, connect us to an ancient botanical past. They are living descendants of forests that existed before the rise of the Himalayas and include stories of healing, danger, and wonder in every bloom!

Backswimmers, Ramps, Way Finding and More: Your Raven Hill Update
https://bit.ly/49CYkWO

Dear Friends,

I love this photo.

Some people think Raven Hill is only for children—to run free, roam, and explore. But it’s also for elders, the young at heart, and the forever curious.

Last Saturday, we were led by Sarah Koetje and Sarah Mayhew of Little Big on a spring ephemeral (wildflower) hike. On our way to the pond, we tasted trout lily leaves (think snap peas!) and leaned in close to sniff in the pungent scent of wild leeks. Spring peepers peeped as we dipped nets into the water, pulling up scuds, backswimmers, and mayfly nymphs—tiny macro-worlds revealed in each scoop..."
