This painting is from day two of the plein air class I took. The first picture is on location, the second one is finished in my studio.

I prepared this canvas years ago and I never quite knew what it wanted to become. Every once in a while I would look at it and think, I should really do something with that.

Then, while driving through farm country from Connecticut into Rhode Island for a doctor's appointment, I saw fields of freshly cut hay and those beautiful round bales scattered across the landscape. Something clicked.

I finally knew what this old canvas was waiting for.

So I brought that memory back to the studio and started building a straw field into the painting. I even considered adding a horse after seeing one along the way, but the more I worked, the more I felt this painting didn't need it.

I'm excited to finally see where this one wanted to go. 🎨 🖼
