I Too Sing America Organization of NWI was founded in January 2008 to serve as a vehicle to promote the performing Arts and educate the community about the history of Black Music. Under the leadership of President Stacy Winfield, the vision was created of promoting the Arts and African American Culture during Black Music Month, in June of each year. An annual celebration would be held in order to
expose the people of Northwest Indiana to the rich legendary history of Black Music and Artists via festivals, concerts and other avenues. ITSA has awarded (18) eighteen $500 scholarships, to high school students of Northwest Indiana, with our first three scholarship recipients graduating in 2014. We have showcased the talent of the youth of NWI, via a Teen Idol Competition: $600 in prizes were awarded to (3) three winners, along with studio time provided by a local promoter for the winner. Sponsored a Singsation Competition at the Gary Genesis Center for adults only. $1000 in prizes were awarded to (3) three individuals. All Competition participants appeared on stage at ITSA’s festival in 2011. Each year since 2008, artists of NWI, (many unsung to the younger generation), in the field of music and the performing arts have been identified and inducted into the Black Music Hall of Fame. The HOF was collaboration with the ECPL, where the ceremony was held. Each artist was able to showcase items that depicted their career. Presented a Musical Drama – Dinner Theater, written by an ITSA member, and cast by local residents in 2010
