SUBJECT: 2026 Drag Racing - Speed Run Rule’s Meeting Clarifies Status of Steel Stud Rule for 2027-2028 season
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
International Snowmobile Racing Clarifies Status of Steel Stud Rule for 2027-2028 season.

The International Snowmobile Racing (ISR) would like to address recent misunderstandings regarding a proposed rule involving the use of steel studs only in select racing classes.

At the most recent ISR Rules Meeting, a proposal was introduced to allow Only steel studs in Pro Stock 1000 and select lower classes. This proposal was brought forward with the intent of exploring cost-reduction opportunities for racers, while aligning with practices seen across multiple motorsports disciplines, including:

• Ice Oval Racing
• Enduro Racing
• Hillclimb Racing
• Snocross

It is important to emphasize the following:
• This proposal will NOT be implemented until the 2027-2028 season.
• It will NOT affect the 2026–2027 racing seasons.
• The proposal can be reviewed by our affiliates for feedback and input.
As part of ISR’s standard governance process, the proposal will be distributed to all ISR affiliates for evaluation. Each affiliate organization will have the opportunity to review the concept and provide input based on their respective racing programs and membership.

The proposal may be revisited and formally reintroduced for discussion and vote at the 2027 ISR Rules Meeting, this also means this rule can be changed or modified at this time.

ISR remains committed to a transparent, collaborative process that supports the long-term health of the sport, balances performance and safety, and considers the economic impact on racers.

After multiple phone calls yesterday we need to address an ongoing challenge and open the door for more collaboration moving forward.

At ISR, along with our affiliates, we put in significant time and effort every day to manage the system, balance expenses, and ensure the organization continues to operate effectively. Each spring, we go through a structured rule review process designed to reflect the needs of our members and the sport as a whole.

Over the years, we’ve made consistent efforts to reach out to the East Coast Drag racing organizations and events to encourage involvement and representation. At this time, we have only one active affiliate in that region. Despite that, we often receive pushback after rule changes are finalized—primarily from individuals or groups who are not part of the process.

We want to be clear: feedback is valuable, and we are always open to input. However, meaningful change comes from participation. If you want your voice to be heard and to help shape the future of ISR, the path is simple—become a member, join the process, and contribute during the times when decisions are being made.

We welcome new affiliates, especially in underrepresented regions, and we are committed to working together to build something stronger and more unified.

The opportunity to be involved is there—we encourage you to take it.
