My brother Christopher can attest to the kind of day I had today. When I tell you it was a day⦠it truly was.
At one point I finally sat down with a cup of coffee, trying to keep my spirit light and my space filled with love. I started writing little messages on cups, just anything that could uplift someone else while I was also trying to uplift myself.
One message that came to me was a Michael Jackson lyric:
āLet sadness see what happy does. Let happy be where sadness was.ā
I wrote it on a cup because I thought, somebody else might need to hear that song too.
Everything I do is about community. I chase community like no other. I believe in putting love, encouragement, and intention out into the world. And what Iāve learned is that when you do that, community finds you right back.
Later in the day, after running around and handling everything I had to handle, I finally had a chance to eat. It was after two oāclock. I got into an Uber on the way to grab something, and the driver started playing Gloria Gaynorās āI Will Survive.ā
And I just started giggling.
Because it felt like God was being a little silly in the best way, like a reminder: You made it through the day.
While I was in that Uber, on the way to finally get something to eat, I opened my messages.
And thatās when I saw the message from this incredible AUsome mom telling me how much her son loves my book.
When I tell you that message made my day⦠it truly did. After everything that had happened, it was the exact reminder I needed.
Moments like that remind me why I do what I do.
Community is real. Love is real. And when you put it out into the world, it always finds its way back to you.
My heart is full tonight. Truly full. š
