Happy rainy Featured Fiber Friday! Have you ever knit with yak?

It's a lovely, soft yarn that's very warm with graceful drape and a touch of halo. The Yakima line from Plymouth Yarn is made from 85% fine superwash merino wool and 15% yak. It's decadently soft with beautiful, kettle-dyed colors

It's a single-ply, sport-weight yarn that's incredibly versatile. Great for accessories or doing soft, luxurious colorwork

Yarn swap update!

We were able to donate 9 LARGE moving bags of yarn and supplies to 6 different teachers with various knitting/crochet/weaving clubs and groups across a number of schools and school districts! We also know a lot of folks went home very happy with the treasures they were able to find. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who was able to attend our most recent yarn swap!

Going back to our first yarn swap, we have an update from the customer who works with the African midwives. She and the people she works with are so delighted with all the yarn and supplies they received! She even sent us some photos of some of the projects that have been made so far! She also mentioned that, while they are currently well-stocked on yarn, they would love to be recipients of knitted baby hats! So if you have some time and some very soft, baby-friendly yarn, feel free to whip up some baby hats and drop them by the shop when they're finished and we'll make sure they get to the African midwives and the babies they help bring into the world. We will be accepting hats through at least the end of November so no need to feel rushed. Also, if you've been wanting to learn or been meaning to pick up the needles again, this is a great project to get started on! Various sizes and patterns of baby hats are all accepted, just please make sure the yarn is soft enough for delicate baby skin

It's yet another Featured Fiber Friday and today, we're starting to look at fibers for these cold mornings and warmer afternoons

Misty Wool by Elsebeth Lavold is a lovely chainette yarn made from 75% wool and 25% h**p. A lightly rustic yarn at the start, it progressively gets softer as you use it and wash it. The h**p allows it to be more breathable and cooler than pure wool but the wool insulates and keeps your body heat where it should be. A perfect balance for these chilly autumn mornings that turn into lovely afternoons

It's worsted weight with 230 yards per 100g skein. And yes, we have sweater quantities but we can also custom order colors and quantities if needed

Our yarn swap is well underway! There's ALL sorts of goodies to hunt through here. Feel free to swing by with your unloved/unwanted/unneeded yarn and pick up a few new treasures for yourself (or friends!)

Reminder that the yarn must have label stating the fiber content, it must be a complete skein and it must be clean and free from strong odors

Happy Featured Fiber Friday! Today, we're featuring a new arrival: Rico Creative Designs Make It Tweed

Maybe you've encountered this carry-along somewhere out in the wild. Or maybe you've never seen it before. It's a thread/lace weight "yarn" that you hold with another yarn to make a regular ol' knitted or crocheted project into a TWEED project and, with today's weather, it's definitely the season for tweed

We have three colors of the standard Make It Tweed and both color options of the Make It Tweed NEON. We also have a couple colors of the standard backordered so hopefully those will come in soon and you'll have even more options to spice up your projects

Prefer something with a bit more ✨sparkle✨? We have a BUNCH of options now, whether you want matching sequins, contrasting sequins, beads, big sequins, little sequins, or stellina. Swipe to see just some of the options

Reminder that tomorrow is our COMMUNITY YARN SWAP! It goes from 10am-3pm and everyone is welcome. Just make sure the yarn you bring follows of the rules of 1) being a WHOLE skein (no scraps) 2) must be labeled with at least fiber content and 3) must be clean and free from strong odors (the lanolin scent of wool is fine)

Coming this Saturday, another COMMUNITY YARN SWAP! If you haven't already started cleaning out your stash, there is still time. Please see the blog on our website for more information on the swap rules as well as FAQs

Additionally, beginning Monday October 5th, our shop hours are changing! Our new hours will be the following:

Tuesday: 11am - 5pm
Wednesday: 11am - 5pm
Thursday: 10am - 8pm
Friday: 11am - 5pm
Saturday: 11am - 5pm
Sunday: 12pm - 4pm

As a note: if you're participating in one of our October knit-a-longs (KALs), the shop will be opening at 10:30 on the first four Fridays and Saturdays of October to accommodate KAL participants

For today's Featured Fiber Friday, we're featuring not one but TWO yarns

If you want to add some ✨sparkle✨ to your life (or at least to your fiber projects, may we recommend these carry-alongs from Concept by Katia.

The Combine & Pailletes adds little pops of sparkle with tiny sequins embedded throughout the yarn. The Combine & Shine adds a more consistent sparkle with its glittering element consistently throughout the yarn. These yarns are perfect for holding with another yarn for glittering accessories and garments. They can be part of excellent holiday gifts as well

Also, LAST CALL on our Cabled Hat class that is starting next week on Wednesday. Please drop into the shop today or tomorrow to sign up if you'd like to learn both cabling and hat construction

There is also still space in our Colorwork KAL that is starting in October. Our staff is happy to advise on yarns and help pick from the two pattern options (actually some sparkle in the yolk of either pattern would look stunning 😍)

Today, we're back on spinning fibers. We recently received these 4oz 80/20 Alpaca/Merino blend balls from Barbara at BJS Fiber Creations and goodness, these are so SOFT 😍 We can't wait to see what you all spin up out of these beauties. There are four colors, including one multi-color ball

Fiber-adjacent, we recently has received a TON of new books, including the heavily requested Math For Knitters by Kate Atherley and Patty Lyons' Knitting Bag of Tricks as well as the Knitting Bag of Tricks Official Workbook. We also received a very cool 'zine called The Beginner's Guide to Textile Literacy by Rebecca W. Morse. So next time you're in, swing by our bookshelves and see if anything catches your eye

WOW 😍 Check out this gorgeous top made and modeled by the very talented Kim, one of our regular spin group attendees

She spun the yarn for the tee from the delightfully cloud-like 14.5 micron merino fiber from BJS Fiber Creations and then used it to make this stunning Cumulus Tee (pattern by PetiteKnit)

If you're green with envy, we have a lot of the 14.5 micron merino fiber at the shop that spins up beautifully for all your fiber->sweater/tee/accessory projects
