My style and technique has changed and developed since then, but one factor has remained consistent: I'm not a big fan of paint brushes. I prefer using non-traditional materials and methods for applying paint and I have experimented with a variety of techniques. Over the years this has at times meant using sq**rt bottles, paper towels, gravity and a hair dryer to achieve my vision. Most recently I
have been experimenting more with spray paint and paint markers, and have been focusing more on stencil work. I use acrylic spray paint, so control and potential over-spray is always an issue. Rather than fighting against this factor I have instead allowed it to guide and influence my process. Applying a technique that I used when I worked with paint on canvas, I highlight the areas of over-spray and uneven coverage by outlining them with black paint marker. This gives the painting depth and dimension, and I find that the black contrast makes the colors stand out. The outlining process is quite tedious and time consuming but it is my favorite part of creating this style of painting. It is during this stage that the paintings come to life - shapes and color become more vibrant, and I start to notice patterns and map them out. As I said, I have used a similar technique with a series of canvas paintings in the past, and some people liken the end product to science fiction fantasy maps. My goal as an artist is to make original art affordable to more people. I enjoy building the frames and preparing them for painting. I think that since I have made the entire piece that it is not only more affordable but the craftsmanship is also a part of the art. I hope you enjoy viewing my artwork as much as I enjoyed creating it. If you are looking to do a group show send me a message, I can also do live paintings if you want to add an artistic element to your next live music/art show.
