Its July 1! Parcours Opens in 4 days! Im stoked. For the Next few days I would like to shout out the local folks that believed in Parcours, and helped it come to life.
Today is Women's Theatre Festival. Started in 2016, the mission of WTF is to create, produce, and promote extraordinary theatre by women. Every year the festival accomplishes this goal by "producing a month-long festival in the summer summer where all shows are; written by a woman, directed by a woman AND feature a diverse cast and crew that’s at least 50% female."
This very weekend is OccupyCon and 24 hour conference all things women and theatre and moving the entire art form towards gender parity, diversity and inclusion.
This years theme is "Women Are Heroes" and its goal is to prove "that women are heroes regardless of the time period, and whether they’re ending a war or just trying to be a good mother. Every struggle matters, every voice deserves equal treatment."
The trifecta of powerful artists; Ashley Popio (Artistic Director and founder) Johannah Maynard Edwards (Managing Director) and Alike' Vail (Head of Diversity) work tirelessly to create space for voices and viewpoints frequently left out of mainstream theatre spaces and put those voices (by way of scripts) in bodies that reflect our community and values.
I am grateful to be a sister show of the festival. Please check out the NC Womens' Theatre Festival for their upcoming productions or pick up some fliers at Parcours. We coexist to blaze the trail for ALL VOICES to be seen heard and supported from this moment on.
