Meet our student leadership team and the creative teams for our 4 plays and 1 musical that we will be creating tonight and tomorrow!!

Today after school all participants met, the actors said something they always wanted to do on stage and then they went home. The directors/playwrights/stage manager teams drafted their casts and then met to discuss their plays.

The playwright and composers are now at home creating something special that has NEVER been created before with deadline of scripts/scores in inboxes by 7AM!

Tomorrow, the actors and creative teams will return and put these plays together!

Catch the shows in action at the BBOX tomorrow at 6:30PM!

Durham Public Schools is proud to celebrate a historic moment for Durham School of the Arts 🎭

For the first time ever, a North Carolina school has been selected to perform in the Opening Ceremony of the International Thespian Festival—and that honor goes to DSA!

Students will take the stage with “Livin’ It Up on Top” from Hadestown: Teen Edition, joining a select group of top theatre programs from across the world. This performance will help kick off one of the most high-profile events of the festival, setting the tone for a week that celebrates the power of student theatre.

The International Thespian Festival (ITF) 2026 will take place June 21–26, 2026, at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

This recognition reflects more than talent. It speaks to the dedication, creativity, and collaboration that define DSA’s theatre program. Being chosen for this moment is a rare distinction and a powerful acknowledgment of the school’s impact on arts education.

We couldn’t be more proud of these students, educators, and the entire DSA community for representing Durham on a global stage.

We are SO excited to announce that we have been invited to perform “LIVIN’ IT UP ON TOP” at the International Thespian Festival! We will be showcasing this number on the MainStage during the opening ceremony. A select number of schools were invited to perform in the opening ceremony, and we are THRILLED to showcase a number from our beautiful production!

Follow along as we compete at the State Conference next weekend and as we work on making this number bigger and better for the Big Stage in Indiana!
