Hey FLSCON Family,

Dave Butler is a friend of the con and the author of the Witchy War trilogy. The Witchy War is a critically-acclaimed and award-winning epic fantasy series set in an early nineteenth century magical America, originally published by Baen Books.

It’s about talented hexer Sarah Calhoun, who learns that she is the secret daughter of the immured empress Mad Hannah Penn and the murdered elf king of Cahokia, Kyres Elytharias, and sets out to rescue her lost siblings and recover her family’s wealth and power. All that stands in her way are the Necromancer Oliver Cromwell and the vengeful god of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, the Heron King.

Dave recently received back the rights and he just launched a Kickstarter project to put the books back into print, his way. He has completely new covers designed to communicate that the books are epic historical fantasy.

Leading the invasion of Earth all the way from Yorktown, VA, meet Bumpy and Zappy — the stars of Old Dominion Daleks! What started as a 60% scale costume for their 8-year-old daughter grew into a full fleet after a challenge from Mom: "You built a scale one — can you build a full-size one for me?"

We look forward to seeing them (and you!) at FLSCON!

FLSCON is thrilled to welcome Kacey Ezell as a featured guest. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Kacey followed her parents into the "family business" and earned her pilot wings in 2001. With over 3,000 hours flying UH-1N, Mi-17, and EC130 helicopters, she brings authentic military and aviation experience to her writing. When she was seven, her mother gave her a copy of Anne McCaffrey's Dragondrums, and Kacey decided she wanted to be a dragonrider—since dragons were in short supply, flying helicopters seemed the next best thing.
Kacey writes across genres including science fiction, alternate history, fantasy, horror, noir, and romance, with notable works such as the Psyche of War series, The Queen's Fixer, and contributions to the Four Horsemen Universe. A self-identified Chaotic Good, she adores dark chocolate, collects steel-boned corsets, and has a superpower for talking friends into doing things that are scary but good for them.

Once upon a time, a bored lawyer and avid reader searched for a particular book. Tired of his favorite characters becoming background noise to the heroes of the story, he took took it upon himself to write something different.

Thus, I’m Not the Hero was born.

A few books later, Tommy has dropped the lawyer gig and decided writing full-time is worth giving a chance.
Born in Florida, Tommy rolled a high luck stat and met his wife early in life. They live in Virginia with their dog with endless energy and two boys that wear even the dog out. You can find Tommy writing, sipping another cup of coffee, or reading anything he can get his hands on.

We are looking forward to seeing him at FLSCON!

Hey FLSCON Family!

We've got a big one for you: Robert E. Hampson is joining us as our STEAM Guest of Honor, headlining this year's STEAM lineup! His sci-fi credentials come from titles like The Moon and the Desert and Across an Ocean of Stars — but that's just his night job. By day, he's a professor of regenerative medicine, neuroscience, neurology, and biomedical engineering, and it shows in his writing: Mars geography, mission architecture, and bionics research all find their way onto the page, giving his science that lived-in, true-to-life feel.

This is your chance to talk shop with someone who researches the science behind the fiction and then goes home and writes it. Catch Robert alongside our full slate of Guests of Honor this April in Virginia Beach for panels, signings, and real conversations with the people shaping where speculative fiction is headed next.
