WE’RE COMING HOME! 🎨🫧

A little recap from our first two volunteer workdays at the Living Arts Center. So many hands helping clean, paint, repair floors, and bring these spaces back to life.

We’re still very much in process, but it’s exciting to see it taking shape. Huge gratitude to everyone who came out and put some love and labor into the space with us.

More to come as we keep getting ready to open the doors — and more ways to jump in and be part of it!

Yesterday’s Afro-Cuban Dance + Shekeré classes were excellent! Grateful for everyone who came to dance, play, learn, and share together. See you next month — September 20!

Third Sunday is here!

You’re invited to this Sunday afternoon’s Rhythm & Roots, featuring shekeré (gourd-and-bead percussion) and Afro-Cuban dance. This month, we’ll be in the rhythms, movements, and embodied qualities associated with Yemayá and Changó.

For eight years, we’ve had the joy of producing this monthly gathering alongside dedicated instructors, dancers, and the community drummers and musicians who show up and bring it to life. We’re deeply grateful for everyone who helps sustain this opportunity to learn and be together.

3:30–4:30 — Shekeré with Atiba Rorie
4:45–6:15 — Afro-Cuban Dance with Vilmedis Cobas Silot (Cuba)
$20 one class | $30 both

¡Ya llegó el tercer domingo!

Te invitamos este domingo por la tarde a Rhythm & Roots, con shekeré (percusión de calabaza y cuentas) y danza afrocubana. Este mes estaremos explorando los ritmos, movimientos y cualidades corporales asociados con Yemayá y Changó.

Durante ocho años, hemos tenido la alegría de producir este encuentro mensual junto a nuestros instructores, bailarines y los percusionistas y músicos de la comunidad que lo hacen posible. We're making room for song as a pathway to expand joy, release grief, connect with others, and catalyze healing.

In just three weeks, we're honored to offer Singing Ourselves Home, a grief song circle collaboration between Unisong and Living Arts Collective, led by Deja Belle and Tessie Castillo.

They'll guide us through simple songs that touch our grief with compassionate presence and encourage tender movement, so each of us can be witnessed in whatever we're carrying.

When we grieve together, we're reminded we don't grieve alone.

Offered on a sliding scale: $20 / $30 / $40, with $30 suggested.

No musical experience is needed, only a willingness to come as you are (open to ages 16+).

Clase magnífica ayer. ✨ Gracias a todos los que vinieron y compartieron la danza. Agradecemos profundamente a los tamboreros y músicos que se presentan y sostienen el ritmo que nos lleva a todos hacia el movimiento y la alegría.

Guarden la fecha para nuestro próximo Dancewave el domingo 16 de agosto, después de nuestra clase de Danza Afro-Cubana. No podemos esperar para volver a bailar con ustedes.

You're invited to our Rhythm and Roots Shekere and Afro-Cuban Dance Workshops this Sunday: come for one or stay for both!

Every month, our team of instructors and musicians - including Vladimir Espinosa ( ), Atiba Rorie (), and more incredible collaborators from the Living Arts Collective - bring a new rhythm and dance to share.

This week, you'll learn the Gagá and Conga Oriental, which are processional, street-based music and dance traditions 🎶

Here's the schedule:

a little scheduling news for July đź—“

This month, because the World Cup final is happening on Sunday, July 19th, we're moving our regularly scheduled Shekere and Afro-Cuban Dance Classes to Sunday, July 26th.

We hope to honor this moment and meet you just one week later!

Afro-Cuban Dance & Music Gathering

Join us on Sunday, July 19 for an afternoon of live Afro-Cuban drumming, music, and dance.

Throughout the gathering, movement is supported by an evolving ensemble of drummers and musicians from Living Arts Collective, Africa Unplugged, and our extended community of collaborators, creating a shared experience rooted in rhythm, listening, and connection.
