Kidznotes Kidznotes catalyzes social change through free ensemble music education
to K-12 students in Durham NC

Inspired by the “El Sistema” model of youth orchestras, Kidznotes catalyzes social change by providing comprehensive music education, leadership opportunities, and character-building experiences free of charge to children with the fewest resources and the greatest need. Students attending Durham Public Schools, Wake County Public Schools and several public charter schools in the North Carolina Tri

angle area who qualify for federal or reduced lunch are the primary participants in the Kidznotes program. During the 2020-21 school year and in the midst of pandemic, Kidznotes matriculated 279 students in programming from Title I schools in Durham, Southeast Raleigh and East Wake County, with two additional pre-K classes in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City schools.

Did you know Kidznotes is a member organization of El Sistema USA (ESUSA)? Here are 5 fun facts about this amazing partner:

1️⃣ ESUSA provides resources, training, funding, student opportunities, and more to El Sistema inspired youth music programs across the country just like Kidznotes.
2️⃣ Founding executive director Katie Wyatt supported the early leadership of ESUSA right here in Durham!
3️⃣ All member programs are inspired by El Sistema which began in Venezuela in 1975 with the mission of creating high-quality accessible music education for students. Bonus fun fact: one famous El Sistema alumnus is LA Philharmonic Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel!
4️⃣ ESUSA supports 150 programs, 6k teaching artists, and 30k students across the USA in 34 states!
5️⃣ Kidznotes alumni have served as ESUSA Fellows, Student Ambassadors, participated in performances at Ravinia in Chicago and more!

Our 15th year of programs wrapped up last week and we're feeling nostalgic. Our students shined at the Spring Concerts and we couldn't be more proud. Thank you to all of our parents, staff, and community partners who made this year a success.
