What a wonderful day of music, fellowship, and community!

Several members of the Durham Community Chorale participated in the Durham Community Sing hosted by the Choral Society of Durham. Singers and listeners from across our community gathered to share in something that feels increasingly valuable: the simple act of coming together through music.

One of the pieces we sang featured words by poet Wilfred Owen:

“When each proud fighter brags they war on death, for life—not men, for flags.”

Those words served as a thoughtful reminder that our common humanity is often more important than the things that divide us. Choral singing has a remarkable way of building connections, fostering understanding, and creating moments of shared purpose among people who may have never met before.

We are thankful for opportunities like this to learn from one another, make new musical connections, and celebrate the power of singing together.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Choral Society of Durham for organizing another successful Durham Community Sing and to everyone who participated. We left inspired, energized, and reminded of why community music matters.

🎶 Singer Spotlight: Gil 🎶

Today we’re highlighting Gil, one of our wonderful section leaders at Durham Community Chorale 💛

Gil is a thoughtful and dedicated musician who truly values the learning experience that comes with singing in a community choir. When asked why he enjoys singing with DCC, he shared:

“Each semester introduces new songs, techniques, and sounds, and over the past couple of years my understanding and ability have grown substantially.”

That commitment to growth, collaboration, and artistry is something we love seeing within our choir family.

And when asked why audiences should come hear DCC perform, Gil said:

“It will be a great experience—it's something you shouldn't miss. We're working on some very beautiful pieces for this concert, and there's a lot of talent in this group.”

We couldn’t agree more.

🎥 Enjoy this clip of Gil singing his solo in Nella Fantasia from our spring concert.

Thank you, Gil, for sharing your voice and musicianship with our community. 💛

To our singers, director, accompanist, musicians, volunteers, Temple Baptist Church, and our wonderful audience: thank you for being part of this special afternoon.

We’re already looking forward to the next season with the Durham Community Chorale. 💛
