The Metcalfe family homestead didn't just survive the early territory years—it stood firm right through the historic Dust Bowl of the 1930s. Our exhibits provide a window into 106 years of one family's resilient rural lifestyle. What era of history fascinates you the most?

Ever wonder what it was really like to build a life on the early Oklahoma prairie? 🌾

Augusta Metcalfe, our local "Sagebrush Artist." By day, she was out in the dirt roping cattle and running a ranch. By night, she sat by a kerosene lamp capturing the beauty of the Oklahoma skies and working horses on canvas. She proved you can work hard in the dirt and still keep a creative spirit.

Today, we are working hard to keep her story alive at Break O’ Day Farm.

Artifact Spotlight: Before modern kitchens and fast-food stops, traveling across the territory meant relying on a chuck box. Today, we’re showcasing the original Corson Chuck Box kept right here at the museum. It’s a fascinating look at the ingenuity required for rural life in the late 1800s. Have you seen it in person yet?

Preserving a piece of Oklahoma’s soul. 🎨🌾

Augusta Metcalfe’s art captured the spirit of the West, but it was the dedication of her son, Howard, that ensured her story stayed alive. Today, the Break-O-Day farm remains a living history lesson where you can see Augusta’s original paintings, personal belongings, and the very landscapes that inspired her work.

Whether you're an art lover or a history buff, the Metcalfe Museum is a must-see "gift to the future."
