In celebration of Independence Day and local patriotism, the Durango Creative District is pleased to present 30 Years of Durango Toons: A Retrospective of Political Cartoonist Judith Reynolds. Biographer, arts journalist, educator, and political cartoonist Judith Reynolds has been documenting local issues through wit and cunning observation in The Durango Herald newspaper since 1995. Having amassed a collection of more than 850 cartoons, now primarily in the collection of the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College, this exhibition highlights 35+ key subjects and fan favorites spanning the past three decades. In addition, never-before-seen drawings from Reynolds’ private Trump archive and Covid satire have been included. Both reproductions and original cartoons will be on display.

Opening this First Friday for the month of June
“Figures and Durango Street Scenes” by John Grow.

If you’re not familiar with painter John Grow, you certainly are with his subject matter.

Grow has spent his career mastering his painting technique to the highest degree and has used our beloved town as his muse along the way.
His work depicts our town with realism and detail unmatched by any artist and it is truly special for us to share his work with you all.

Alongside his Street scenes, Grow is displaying his studies and practice of figure drawing. This gives the viewer more insight into how drawing forms the foundation for his final painted masterworks. If you can master figure drawing, you can master practically anything and it shows in John’s beautifully detailed works.
