TO BE CLEAR, these were my previous fears around sharing my art with the world. It’s taken a lot of time and a lot of therapy to work through them. And now, to type them out, it’s actually pretty funny how my brain used to trap me in these boxes. If you are trapped in these boxes, too, here are the counter thoughts to the ones listed above:
1- You are going to be observed anyway. Let the attention land. And stop taking it so seriously. It’s just art, my lovie.
2- To live a true life is to cause friction at times. Breathe. Those who are for you, will find you. If you are true to yourself, you *won’t* be for everyone (and that’s actually a good thing.)
3- Your art is a piece of who you are! Shirking away from talking about it doesn’t make you humble or mysterious, it just makes you lonely. Open up! Yes, you make art. Let people see it.
4- We both know that the world’s idea of “success” is flashy, consumeristic, and wildly romanticized. Instead, let’s focus on a life that works well for YOU. Does that mean more art? Yes. Does that mean celebrating small wins? Yes. Does that mean dropping comparisons to other people’s journeys? Also, yes.
5- Hello, social anxiety. Calm down for a bit. No, the world isn’t lying to you, and none of your friends hate you either. Go eat some protein and take a nap. We’ll see you when you come back to reality, darling.
6- Girl, STOPPPP. You are not responsible for anyone else’s perception of you. You are only responsible for how you experience your world. Focus on that.
7. We know that the journey of creating makes you a better person, a better mom, a better friend. Dollar signs or not, this is the life you were meant to live, so live it.
