Sunday’s renter was another repeat customer. Four years ago Pat Hovland chose my venue, Rustic Chic Retreat, to host a high school graduation for her granddaughter, Tessa, and now Tessa graduated from UW-River Falls so they are back for another celebration. They also combined it for a high school graduation for Tessa’s brother Dominic.
They loved my western/horse theme decorations because Tessa has shown and competed with horses for many years. They brought in the graduation decor.
I set up tables in the adjacent garage and Dominic’s displays were put up in there. I didn’t get photos of that because they were putting up those decorations while I was working at the Pepin County Dairy Breakfast and I got home just as the party was starting.

Tea Time Anyone?
Jacqueline Traun Mombelli contacted me about hosting an 80th Birthday Party for her mom, Eva Marie Coughlin. I asked her if she had a preference for decorations and she just said something springy. I met Eva MANY years ago when I worked at the grocery store and she would come in shopping for fresh produce for her German restaurant in town. She was always a joy to visit with!!
I thought a tea party theme would suite Eva’s party very well. One of the sets of China was from my German grandma. Jacqueline also said the decorations were perfect for her Mom.
I got out yard games for the kids and it was great to hear them running around playing kickball, tic tac toss, throwing around a football and digging in the dirt!!

This doesn’t look like your typical graduation party but that’s what it was!
Thanks to my neighbor Katie Jesse for renting my venue Rustic Chic Retreat LLC to host her son’s, Breck’s, graduation party!!
I provided all the decorations except the canning jars with the cattails and reeds. I always tell my renters to feel free to move around or remove any of my decorations that you like. I include photos to show how Katie rearranged some of my items but I forgot to take a photo of the blue covered table after she rearranged things.
I love how Katie used my net to hold all the bags of chips!!!
When Katie first talked to me about what her ideas were for decorating she had mentioned using a canoe to hold the pop and beer but she didn’t have one. I thought about that and then realized that my other neighbor Sally down the road had a canoe. So I messaged her and asked if Katie could use it for her graduation party and Sally said yes!! Only in a small community can a neighbor ask another neighbor to help out a third neighbor and it all works out!!
Small communities are the best place to live!!

Today my sister-in-law, Lisa Bazille and her cousin, Peggy Schutz put together a Surprise Birthday party for their Aunt Donna Carothers. Pink is Donna’s favorite color so that was the color of choice today for all the decorations I put up.
Donna is the spry young chick in the chair surrounded by her son, Troy, and grandkids, Claire, Paris and Clayton.
There was a very full house of friends and family that came to celebrate Donna!!
We got some family photos of my immediate family and then of my husband’s siblings. Somehow I missed a photo of just Cheryl & Dave and Jim & Audrey but they are in the group photo. The last photo is when someone else gets a hold of your phone…great photo Lisa!! It was a great afternoon spent with ones you love.

“Cool Dude” was the theme for Saturday’s baby shower rental. Thank you to Rebecca Rutherford for choosing my venue, Rustic Chic Retreat, to host a shower for her daughter Kylee. Rebecca had dropped off the black & white rug, back drop and signs, light up signs, and baby’s name plaque. I incorporated those items in with all the other decorations I put up for her. Rebecca’s cousin, Sheila Helen, created a diaper cake as a centerpiece for each table. Those were so cute!!

Change of scenery for me today!!
I didn’t have any rentals this weekend so I got a lot of yard work done on Saturday and Sunday.

This morning my son called and asked if I could cut hay. My daughter-n-law is still on maternity leave so I don’t have to watch my little boys so off in the tractor I went. I left LOVE this life!! After farming for 34 years you can’t take the farming out of me!! I can watch the cows graze as I cut hay, see deer and rabbits run across the field, see hawks soar above and have time dream. This is awesome!!

Coca-Cola was the theme for today’s baby shower. Thank you to Janel West Schieffer for renting my venue Rustic Chic Retreat LLC to host a baby shower for her daughter Janessa. Janel is a lot like me…she goes all out in decorating. I provided all the Coke bottles with flowers in them and the 2 yellow Coke crates. Janel had all the other Coke decorations. I had the popcorn corner set up for yesterday’s shower and then I realized that it said Coca-Cola on the door so I left it all set up. It worked out perfectly to coordinate with Janel’s popcorn balls. She made the cotton candy ice cream cones with M&Ms in the cone. Did you see the HOT DOGS? Those are AWESOME! Janel made them from Twinkies, KitKat bars and melting chocolates for the ketchup and mustard!!! She made all the candy Coke bottles and bottle caps. Janel did such a terrific job on the food, the food set up, and her decorations!! I loved it all!!

Today’s bridal shower rental had a little twist to it! The bride and groom-to-be met at the State Fair so the decorations have a slight fair theme along with a burgundy, dusty rose and peach color scheme. I created all the decorations except the 2 banners. I love the popcorn corner!! It’s gardening time!! Thank you to Kristie Zelina for renting my venue Rustic Chic Retreat LLC to host a birthday party for her precious little girl. Kristie sent me a photo of the adorable banner that her Mom was having made for the party and I created all the decorations based on the banner. I’m not much of a green thumb so I’m lucky that the plants even sprouted for me in the terra cotta pots.
I’m finding out that my venue is the half way point in joining many families for parties. Kristie and her family came up from Black River Falls and Grandma came down from Trego.

I was honored to be a Red Letter Grant recipient back in the fall of 2023 for my rental venue Rustic Chic Retreat LLC! The Red Letter Grant is available to woman business owners in their first two years of business. This year for their spring award ceremony the Red Letter Grant committee contacted me to see if I was interested in hosting their event. I was all for it! Of course I set up all the decorations for them because that’s what I love to do!! I also donated a silent auction basket for the evening for a fundraiser for the grant.
The last photo I circled all of the lucky women that were awarded a grant out of 111 applicants!
Way to go ladies!!! I intend to check out some of these businesses myself!
