This has been such an exciting week here at Hidden Creek! ❤️

We welcomed four wonderful couples in for venue tours this week… and we’re so thankful that three of them chose Hidden Creek for their 2027 weddings! 💍✨ We also booked another beautiful wedding for June 2027, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

If you’re planning a 2027 wedding, now is the time to start looking at venues. The dates really do begin filling up faster than you think.

Things No One Told Me About Owning a Wedding Venue… Part 2☀️🥵

One thing I never expected to think about every single day? The weather.

Not just, “Will it rain?” But…
Will it be too hot?
Too humid?
Too windy?
Will Grandma be comfortable?
Will the flower girl make it through the ceremony?
Will the cake survive?
Will guests actually enjoy being outside?

Yesterday evening I had a venue tour at 7:00 PM, and it led to one of those conversations that every summer bride needs to hear.

We walked down to the pergola, and I looked at them and laughed, “I feel like my eyeballs are melting!” 🥵 It was 7:00 in the evening…and it was still 96°. The heat index had reached 107° earlier in the day.

That opened the door to talking about summer weddings.

When we expanded Hidden Creek, we made sure to invest in keeping our guests comfortable. We installed six air-conditioning units throughout the venue. We start the day with the building around 68°, and even on those 100°+ Oklahoma days—with guests constantly coming and going and the doors opening and closing—the venue usually stays around 72–73°. With a couple hundred people inside, it may feel a little stuffy, but I’d much rather have guests feeling slightly warm than standing outside in triple-digit heat.

One of the brides asked, “What would you recommend if I want a September wedding?”

My answer was simple…

If it’s still hot, keep your outdoor ceremony short and sweet.

Think about your guests. Your grandparents. The little ones. The pregnant moms. The people wearing suits, boots, long dresses, and heels. Just because you’re excited (and maybe a little more accustomed to the Oklahoma heat) doesn’t mean everyone else is.

If it’s pushing 90° or above, my recommendation is to keep your outdoor ceremony around 20–30 minutes—40 minutes at the absolute most. Then invite everyone inside where they can cool off, relax, and enjoy celebrating with you.

That’s one of the reasons I love that Hidden Creek offers both indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces. Oklahoma weather likes to keep us guessing, and having options means you never have to sacrifice your guests’ comfort.

If your heart is set on an outdoor ceremony, give me an Oklahoma fall wedding any day. 🍂 Cool evenings, beautiful sunsets, comfortable guests…it’s hard to beat. Spring is gorgeous too, but it always comes with the possibility of rain.

At the end of the day, one of my jobs as a venue owner is helping couples create a beautiful wedding and making sure their guests have a wonderful experience. Sometimes the little details—like the weather—matter more than people realize.

Now excuse me while I go check tomorrow’s forecast… because apparently that’s part of my daily job description too! 😂

Last night, Hidden Creek was filled with so much love, laughter, and celebration. We had a beautiful wedding celebrating an amazing bride and groom, surrounded by family, friends, and a whole lot of fun! 💍🤍

Normally, I don’t schedule another event on the same weekend after a wedding because, let’s be honest… weddings take a lot out of you!

But here I am, sitting on the floor waiting for my freshly mopped floors to dry so I can start setting up for tonight’s birthday celebration for 80 guests. 🎉

From “I do” to “Happy Birthday,” it’s another busy day at Hidden Creek, and I truly wouldn’t have it any other way.

Life is good here at Hidden Creek!♥️

✨ One of my favorite things about Hidden Creek is our decorating room.

For my son’s engagement celebration, I challenged myself to use only what we already had in the decorating room—and I absolutely loved how it came together!

We wanted it to feel like summer with just a hint of patriotic charm—not an actual Fourth of July theme. By mixing reds, whites, and blues with greenery, wood accents, silver, gold, and white décor, we created a look that felt elegant, welcoming, and uniquely ours.

One thing I would love to see make a comeback is table toppers! They add height, texture, and personality to every table. We also used one of our table arches with simple greenery to create a beautiful focal point on the serving table.

My girls and partners in crime😉, Chelsea and Payton, each have completely different decorating styles, and I loved watching them blend their ideas together. Their floral arrangements were different, but that’s what made everything feel so warm, personal, and inviting.

If you’re getting married at Hidden Creek, I encourage you to take full advantage of our decorating room! We have backdrops, table arches, florals, lanterns, candles, wood accents, glassware, serving pieces, risers, and so many little details that can help bring your vision to life.

Sometimes all it takes is shopping your venue before shopping the stores. ❤️

🌿 Things They Don’t Tell You About Owning a Wedding Venue…

I was thinking today would be a great day to start sharing some of the things they don’t tell you about owning a wedding venue.

Today, I was outside at Hidden Creek from 6:30 this morning until noon because, let’s be honest, this Oklahoma heat doesn’t leave much choice! If you want to work outside in July, you either start early or you’re going to melt. I actually thought it wasn’t going to bad this morning… but the humidity said. Hold my water bottle! ☀️😅

This morning included…

🌸 Trimming the crape myrtles because I want them to look like tiny bonsai trees, not overgrown bushes.

🌿 Pulling grass and weeds because I don’t want anything growing where it shouldn’t.

🐜 Spraying for bugs under the permanent ceremony benches because the ants think it’s their home too—it actually is… but I want them to find a new home. And nobody wants to get bitten while watching a beautiful bride and groom say, “I do.”

🌳 Picking up tree limbs because the wind never fails to leave them scattered around, and trimming tiny branches because you don’t want them showing up in your wedding photos.

🪑 Washing every ceremony bench and wiping down the metal fencing because the birds seem to love Hidden Creek just as much as we do.

It’s funny… when people think about owning a wedding venue, they picture weddings. They don’t picture the hours spent preparing for those weddings.

Every bench, every flower bed, every tree, and every blade of grass gets a little attention because I want Hidden Creek to be as beautiful as possible when a couple walks in on one of the biggest days of their lives.

And honestly… I wouldn’t trade it for anything. ❤️

June was one for the books here at Hidden Creek.

We started the month with a beautiful wedding shower for the daughter of one of my dearest friends—a young lady I’ve had the privilege of watching grow up. Seeing her begin this new chapter of life was so special.

Then we hosted one of the most beautiful quinceañeras I’ve ever seen. Every detail was stunning, but even more beautiful was watching a family celebrate such an important milestone together.

Next came a surprise 60th birthday party for a dear friend, full of laughter, hugs, and memories that will last a lifetime.

And then… the biggest surprise of all for our family. My youngest son proposed, and I gained an amazing new daughter-in-law. My heart couldn’t be happier!

This weekend we get a little chance to catch our breath before wedding season kicks into high gear. From there, the rest of July will be filled with weddings, and I can’t wait to watch each couple begin their own story.

People often ask me what it’s like owning a venue. The truth is, it’s so much more than renting out a building. It’s getting a front-row seat to some of life’s biggest moments. We get to celebrate love, milestones, family, and friendships. Around here in small-town Oklahoma, those moments matter. Community matters. And it is truly an honor to have families choose Hidden Creek to be part of their memories.

To everyone who has celebrated with us, thank you for trusting us with your special moments. We don’t take that for granted, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of this summer has in store.
