WARBIRDS Update 4 of 4

The Duluth Airshow, presented by Essentia Health and Members Cooperative Credit Union is proud to announce that we have secured four (4) additional warbirds from WPP Legacy Warbirds making this summer's show the largest collection of warbirds in our 26 year history!

Today's featured aircraft is the Grumman HU-46 Albatross. The Albatross is a large, twin-radial engine amphibious flying boat that was used by the United States Air Force (USAF), the U.S. Navy (USN), the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), primarily as a search and rescue (SAR) aircraft. Originally designated as the SA-16 for the USAF and the JR2F-1 and UF-1 for the USN and USCG, it was redesignated as the HU-16 in 1962.

The Duluth Airshow, presented by Essentia Health and Members Cooperative Credit Union is proud to announce that we have secured four (4) additional warbirds from WPP Legacy Warbirds making this summer's show the largest collection of warbirds in our 26 year history!

Today's featured aircraft is the FG-1D Corsair! The FG-1D Corsair was a WWII-era carrier-based fighter-bomber built under license by Goodyear for the U.S. Navy and Marines. It featured an inverted gull-wing design, a 2,000+ hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine, and was renowned as a top-performing, heavily armed aircraft, dubbed "Whistling Death" by the Axis.

Today's featured aircraft is the FM-2 Wildcat! The General Motors FM-2 Wildcat was the final, most advanced production variant of the Grumman F4F Wildcat fighter during World War II, optimized for small es**rt carrier operations. Featuring a more powerful 1,350 hp engine and a taller tail for stability, 5,280 were built by Eastern Aircraft to provide superior performance, high-speed maneuverability, and enhanced close-air support.

"The biggest piece of feedback we've heard the past 5 years was a desire to see more warbirds," said Airshow President Ryan Kern. "We took that to heart and our Ops Group has been working tirelessly to scour warbirds that have never been to Minnesota all four hail from Texas making their Minnesota airshow debut."
