One of the outdoor recreation projects proposed for the St. Louis River Corridor is the Grand Avenue Nordic Center. DXC has worked closely with the City of Duluth to develop the vision and plans for this new cross-country ski venue, which will include the following:

A. 3.3 k of cross-country ski trails aimed at recreational skiers

B. snowmaking capabilities on the full length of the trails

C.

lights for early morning and evening skiing

D. adjacent to the chalet at the base of Spirit Mountain

This is an exciting project that really changes the game for Nordic skiing in Duluth. Imagine daily groomed, flowy trails. Imagine early and late snow. A fun and safe place for youth skiers to learn and grow. A place where we all congregate to share our stories of ski adventures and Birkie conquests and ski together as a community. Where we can host big and small events with a full service Chalet. Where expert snowmakers and groomers pay meticulous attention with the best equipment to a perfect trail conditions every day. The synergy of the Nordic and Alpine working together is the beauty of this plan. Or email questions or comments to [email protected]

The cost of this project is estimated to be $1.5 million. The Tourism tax will cover $1 million and the City is pursuing state and federal grants for an additional $250,000. DXC has taken on the challenge of raising the remaining $250,000 for building this wonderful ski venue. This is a long term legacy for us, our kids and future generations. In this day and age, snow is not a guarantee even in Duluth. If we want Nordic skiing and our lifestyle to continue, now is the time to contribute in a significant way. You can help make this happen! We encourage you to donate to this project directly by using the Donate button below. This donation will be made to DXC and earmarked specifically for the Grand Avenue Nordic Center project.

All trails are closed for the season. With the warm temperatures and spring runoff, we have decided to close all Nordic trails for the season. The hill will be closed until things dry out and we can open for summertime operations.

Thank you for a great season!

We have a Nordic race today at Grand Ave and all of lower Nordic up to the DWP will be closed to the public. The course should reopen a bit after 5pm and all race trails will be tracked for classic.

If you are coming for the race, there is additional overflow parking across the street at Ski Hut!

We are not doing the weekly Friday groom of upper Nordic. We will reassess once the temperatures drop back off.

Our attachment for the PB100 did not arrive today, so we have no way to set the classic tracks. Upper Nordic will not be groomed this weekend. It is still skiable. Lower Nordic will have the skate deck groomed but no classic tracks set.
